Hey fellas,

I have been planning on upgrading my bow components this offseason and was wondering if anyone had some experiences good or bad with some of my choices. I shoot a left handed red head kryptic, not the fanciest thing, but its comfortable for me and its only 2 years old.

First and foremost, its time for a new string. The guy at Bass Pro recomended winners choice. I know they are expensive and thats ok with me, so thats probably what I will go with unless someone else knows of a high quality string maker.

Im also wanting to upgrade my sight from the one that came with it to a Trophy Ridge Vertical 3 pin sight, I think its the Fire Wire that I am looking at. There isnt much to choose from when looking for a dedicated left hand sight. I cant believe there isnt more 3 pin sights.. It seems to me that a 5 pin sight would take up the whole deers body. Thats one reason I want a vertical 3 pin alignment. I think it will help see the deer better when getting ready to shoot. I normally have one set at 10, 20, and 30 yards. Most my stands allow for a very close shot and a couple offer a 100 yard shot if I want. But Im not comfortable with a 40 yard shot.

Im also gona upgrade to an octane stabilizer. Ive read good things about them and Id like to make my bow a little quieter.

Im also thinking about switching arrows. I currently shoot redhead carbon furry's, and they shoot pretty good, but sometimes they seem inconsistant. Some of that is me, some of it is not. I have been thinking about switching to carbon express maxima arrows. They are kind of pricey, but not terrible bad. I like the weight foward theory and it makes sense.

Anyway any sudgestions??

I have heard good about thoses arrows, should be fine! Stabilizer, same, but are expensive! Winners Choice are great strings! I like them a lot have used others, but like them a lot. As for the sight, look at Black Gold and Tru-glo...Black Gold are rock solid...and Tru-Glo's sights are just about all right or left-handed. You can convert all of them in very little time! Black Gold makes left-handed sights...both have sights with 3,5,7, and even 8 pins!

For the noise, put Sims stuff everywhere!

winners choice is a good string...I love the flashpoint sights, swithced to the redzone this year...really bright sights...I also have a toxonics, but it's brittle and not very good in and out of the woods...easily broken...

I shoot a LH Bear Element and brother you ain't kidding about finding LH accessories. I had a Tropy Ridge 3-pin vertical sight I got a couple years ago. It takes a little bit to get used to sighting in at your target with vertical pins. You're right that you will see more of the deer's body, but I found myself double-looking to make sure I wasn't too far forward or back until I had shot it quite a bit. I would recommend shooting at a 3-D target vs. a bag or block type target after initial set-up until you get used to it. I also got rid of my peep and replaced with a Hind-Sight for better visibilty (I hunt exclusively out of ground blinds and need as much light as I can get). Unfortunately, I broke the top pin on my sight and replaced the whole sight with the Bone Collector sight. It's not a vert. pin, but I like the way it works for me. It comes as an ambidextrous sight so can set up either LH or RH. It also comes with a blue LED pin light. You can't go wrong with Winner's Choice. On your stabilizer, go with something that feels "right" on your bow. The little bit it will quiet your bow won't mean squat if it feels like you're holding an anvil at full draw. 187Elk's advice on the Sims stuff is right on. You might want to take a look at a String Tamer as well. I have a couple Limbsavers and leeches on my bow. Combined with a Tamer, I've had some buddies with Matthews and Hoyt's ask how I got it so quiet. I've shot Carbon Fury's for the last 3 years with no problems ( no shots longer than 25 yds and 100gr heads), but try something else to see if it might group better for you. Sorry for the long reply.

Hey fellas,

I have been planning on upgrading my bow components this offseason and was wondering if anyone had some experiences good or bad with some of my choices. I shoot a left handed red head kryptic, not the fanciest thing, but its comfortable for me and its only 2 years old.

Your choices are all excellent! As for the sight choice- I don't have your left handed issue but I have another, I am red/green color blind. Different color pins are almost useless to me. I need a big field of view to be sure what pin I am using. When bows shot slow with heavy arrows I did not mind 3-4 pins because the pins were far apart & you could see well around them. Now bows are faster, arrows lighter, pins closer & for me they obscure too much. Even if I can see the deer through all the pins, the extra horizontal lines they cause can obscure the limb my arrow will hit instead of hitting the deer. Don't you just hate that? Also the new fib optic pins are MUCH brighter than our old metal ones. So bright in fact that with 3-5 pins close together I find I & my friends sometimes lose the ability to see the dark deer in the dark woods when the pins are too bright. I went to this single pin adjustable sight 2 seasons back: http://www.truglo.com/IW_Products.m4p.pvx?;MULTI_ITEM_SUBMIT
With a large diameter G5 peep & a sight like this your field of view is huge & the deer (& limbs to shoot around) are seen better than anything else I have used to date. It is left & right hand adaptable, so if you don't like it it's easier to sell. This sight come with a built in light that shines on the coil of fiber optic, not on the tip of the pin itself. This avoids the "white out" of the deer when the light on the pins is too bright & causes your pupils to constrict. I have used all the pin lighting options & this is the only one I have found that really works well & is dependable. If you ever have to hunt from the dark of a pop up blind on a dark day you will bless that little light!

There are advantages & disadvantages to every sight design. When I am hunting with one, I always wonder if the other would not be better. It is nice not having to adjust a sight when a deer is close, so I leave mine set to the EXACT distance to the close trail I expect to shoot to (you can't do that with non sliding sights) & only move it for the longer shots where I usually have the time & calm to do so.

Also, buy a "String Tamer" or similar device. I have one & it is the most remarkable accessory I have ever used on a bow! They silence the bow more than any stabilizer you can buy. There is a reason they so quickly have became a standard on top of the line bows. Pick a stabilizer that balances the weight of our bow most comfortably in your hand. That's why they are called stabilizers & not silencers!

Hope this helps to confuse you! What ever you choose, you are a credit to hunters for taking the time & effort to make your equipment more effective.

Im also gona upgrade to an octane stabilizer. Ive read good things about them and Id like to make my bow a little quieter.

updating your equipment is always a fun and good idea. there are many many choices out there but i will give you the equipment i use and fully recommend. you should never skimp on arrows, try easton axis nfuzed arrows. they are absolutely tough, fly straight and penetrate beyond belief. as for the sight, try an apex micro adjustment sight or a truglo micro adjust sight. the micro adjustments are worth their weight in gold because you can make the micro adjustments needed to really hone your bow. get a sims extended scoil, they are really quiet. if you use a split limb bow, get sims alpha shox or a solid limb bow use their limb savers for that kind of bow limb. i don't know what you are hunting, but if you are hunting whitetails, try slick trick if you prefer broadheads or definitely rage if you prefer mechanicals. hope this helps. good luck

I am pretty sure you live near kc and i am in st joe mo. If you really want good strings, the crackers strings in craters here in st joe are phenominal. I have seen a few hunting shows that have got their strings from him. Just giving you an idea.

I just want to throw out there that if you feel that you are a little inconsistant, if you do not already have a drop away rest you should look into it. They are far more forgiving than most other rests. I tried one and was amazed at how much tighter my groups where.

I have a trophy ridge 5-pin vertical sight and I love it. I think it allows you to see more of the animal than a horizntal sight. Just put the pin on th ebioler works and you can see both the deers head and butt on either side. Once I switched to the vertical I will never go back.
As far as arrows go.....i use gold tip....there motto is "the toughest arrow you will ever shoot" and they are right. Good luck.

BEST IN THE BUSINESS....

WINNERS CHOICE STR/CBLS cant beat them I don't care what ppl say no other string/cables on the market come with the warranty and product backing they do

ARROWS...DONT DO A THING!!! Dont make a switch until you have the chance to TUNE them. Go to a PRO-Shop and tell them you are looking for new arrows and want to paper tune and see what shoots. YOUR BOW PICKS THE ARROW NOT YOU.

SIGHTS...SPOT HOGG!!!! 3-5-7 pins Dedicated left hand models. Look at the REAL DEAL WRAP in .019 pins or you can even get them custom done. Say .029 for 20 yd, .019 for 30 and 40 if the 3 is what you want.

BUT...Opinions are like @$$H0L#$...everyone has one.
