Full Version: Primos Being Attacked?
Primos Cabin Chat > Primos® Cabin Chat > Elk Hunting

Just caught a glimse of an NRA article about the ban of hunting videos, have not read it. A guy at work was reading it and the primos dvd on the front of the article caught my eye. He did give me the gist of the read. Short version, there is a law that states you cannot take footage of animals being killed or somthing along those lines. The Humane Society has said it does not have a problem with the making of ethical hunting videos and will not fight for a ban on these type of ethical videos. The NRA and others are throwing the BS flag and think it is a ruse to keep the NRA in the not concerned mode, so they can quietly introduce stricter guidelines on the production of hunting DVDs. Does anyone have more insight on this? I look forward to my primos elk and big game hunting fix yearly, the ethics and hunting techniques are always above reproach. Hopefully my son and daughters will be able to enjoy these videos as much as i do. Any thoughts or comments or corrections will be appreicated. Dave--- Post Script, The man said, If you want to get better at somthing find someone better than you learn from them, then move to someone better than them. Me i just went straight to the top and learn from the primos boys! biggrin.gif

I hope they don't ban them, but my wife on the other hand would love it cause she always ask me "is that all you watch"???? LOL!

I heard about this a while ago. Something with it being cruelty of animals and having people being FORCED to watch or some garbage like that. I guess the argument is if they can make the actual videos labelled as cruelty to animals then they will have a much easier path doing the same with hunting. Its a bunch of garbage. One more thing I hope doesn't pass. Why am I always worried about things being passed. I wish someone would propose a bill that I actually hope would pass. This country is going down the drain fast.

I am with the others who's wives are complaining about watching hunting videos, mine does too. I would think that if they ban the production of such videos, they will likely have the lawsuit from hell from every hunter in the country, as well as the people who's livelyhood is based on making the videos. If they ban it due to a "cuelty to animals" plea, they might as well blow it in the wind, hunting happens weather it is on film or not. What about all the tv shows who allow certain things to be viewed, such as CSI and shows of the like. It is ok to mainstream deceased humans disected on an autopsy table for millions of viewers but it is not ok for those who pay for the channels to watch the hunting specifically? I think that in the end there will be a loosing battle for the activists because of people like us who live for our hunting! Think of the reprocussions to the activists from the channels such as The Outdoor Channel and Vs. who would have to shut down as a result. I am willing to bet that all the major businesses such as Bass Pro and Cabela's would support a lawsuit of this nature. If there is a petition against these activist, I will sign it in a heartbeat, and generate it if necessary.

RoadRage, good point. i had not thought of the CSI/ Criminal minds angle, you can show in detail how humans are slaughtered with malice, but an ethical hunting video no? Some will say that the CSIs are staged and there for not real. However like law and order most of the storys are based on real life events. One other angle the law says that if the video is used for educational purposes (science, pre med and such) that these are the exception. Well i veiw the truth series as highly educational and will help promote ethical hunting. The antis should be thanking primos. Dave ---- Wives complaining, well during the dating period 20 some yrs ago she complained very little, once married, she went pro! Waiting for her complaining hall of fame induction. Just kiddin ya all. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

I wonder about all these movies that really show people how to mastermind crimes and how to sell and traffic drugs. They aren't banned and they could be a potential threat to the well being of millions of citizens. Some people just have to much time on their hands I guess to sit around and think of ways they can cause a fuss!!

All in all, it is just another branch on the freedom stealing tree. The sad fact is, that tree is getting bigger with deeper roots!

These are the types of situations that are so important for us to all band together as hunters, no matter how you like to hunt and with what weapon we need to stand tall together. The Truth video series is the best one out there and I can't wait for the new ones to come out year after year. Please keep us posted on new activities on this.

The law was written to restrict videos, photos, etc of animal cruelty (dog fighting being the prime example). However, the lauguage of the bill is so generic that it could easily be construed as restricting hunting videos.

Just a warning, there truly is no such thing as ethical hunting. The use of ethical in a sentence should be thought about a bit longer. That word is a broad meaningless word because every one has a different opinion.

If it is legal than it is ethical, how ever there can be un-ethical laws. Of course there are a very limited exeptions to this thought, but one should even think two or three times about those before saying they are un ethical.

We as hunters need to refrain from using this word as it will tear us apart, just as fly fishers hate worm fishers and in many areas there is a big gap between the two. If you dont believe me go drown a worm in blue ribon river country and try to politly start a friendly conversation with your fly fishing nieghbor. laugh.gif

I would guess unknown would expand on this thinking.

How ever do not mistake un-ethical for un-inteligent. If a video maker has a hunter hit an animal bad and it runs off and suffers a long horible death, and he gets video of it, five minutes of blood coming out if its nostrols and the critter standing up and falling down, that should not make it to final print, but it was not un-ethical. If that is un-ethical than so is driving on roads with wild life in the area. A particular stretch of interestate here yealds an anual 1200 road killed deer. huh.gif not to mention the ones that get hit and run off a ways to die. That sounds un ethical, but try and get people to stop driving.

Sorry to rob from the original post, but this feels like the right place to put the ethical speech.
