SC Bucks n Birds
I am shooting the Wincheser 120gr positive expanding points now, but haven't been thrilled with them. Shot a buck at 80 yds bullet lodged in offside shoulder without making a pass through. Anybody got any experience with the Noslers and what makes them so special and so expensive. Is it worth making the switch is basically what i am asking?

I shoot the nosler partition in my 7 mm Rem Mag. I have had a few pass throughs, but only when going through ribs on both sides. If you hit the shoulders, half the time they will drop like a ton of bricks, but will rarely get a pass through, especially on a big buck. My uncle cusses them all the time because of the lack of blood trail, but he always puts it in the shoulder.

I guess it depends what you like. The plastic tip will explode and may wind up anywhere in your meat as well.

Partitions are a tough bullet that expands well and transfers energy but they tend to lose their nose area a punch a small hole out the other side. Some people i know hate em others love em. You may want to try the Nosler Accu Bond or the Barnes Triple Shock also.

if your goal is a pass through every single time, shooting through shoulders, then i don't think the partition will satisfy you either. at least not out of a 25-06. and this is not me bashing a 25-06, because i absolutely love mine. when i want a for sure pass through (almost for sure) on a deer, i use a partition. but its 200 grains and coming from an 8mm mauser. a big chunk of metal, and moderate velocity equal penetration. but even then, it isn't perfect.

if your heart is set on using the 25-06, and you think the partition is too much money, try the core lokts from remington. not usually the most accurate bullets, but tough. just a thought.

I have not had good sucess with the corelockt. I have killed many with them. However they never did through a very good blood trail about 65% of the time. Once ina while sure, but when it is tough, they will let you down, especially on a big deer. mad.gif

115 Barnes X, 55 grains RL-22, 3100 fps will penetrate deer and most elk. A blood trail is not the most important factor. Destroying vital organs and breaking bones is the idea. That way there is no need for tracking.
