hey I'm getting ready to by a new range finder and was wondering if I could get some in put from some of you that already have some. I was looking at the new Nikon ARC but i hear that it only goes to 111 yards. can somebidy coonfirm if that is true. I mostly bowhunt, but for 289.00 dollars i wish it would ranger farther than that. I do want one with the angle compinsater built in. Any suggestions would be great.

I believe that is correct...the rangefinder you are refering to only ranges out to 100yds. but is "Specifically designed for the bowhunter."

If all you really do is bowhunt...then I wouldn't have a problem with that...if you're looking to use it for more than that...then I would look at a different model.

Those are for bowhunters, buy the Nikon Rifle Hunter they are good to 500yds. Or the Nikon Pro Staff it is the same without the ARC.

I have a Leica and a Nikon. The nikon is the bowhunting one, and it's compact and convenient. However, the Leica is unreal in terms of quality, clarity, and you just can't beat a RED reticle! I'd look for one that shows red and reads the yardages in red. It's worth it's weight in gold in dim light situations. With a black reading you can't see it! There have been plenty of times I wish the Nikon had red readings...just a thought....I think Leupold has one that is red now as well.

I have the NIKON ARC 1000 and it goes to 1000 yards on reflective objects. At Cabelas you can but it, binoculars, a knife, and a bonecollectors DVD in a bundle pack for $300

I bought the Nikon RifleHunter 550 today, tried it out, and I love it!!

It has the I/D (Incline/Decline) in it and it ranges past 500 yds.
It was $299 from Gander Mountain (I got a deal because they didn't have another version in stock), it is the same as the Nikon Archers Choice, but with more features, and like I said this one ranges past 500 yds.

Works great for bow or rifle hunting, and its cheaper than the Bushnell 1000 with ARC.

My understanding is the Bushnell has both the "bow" and "rifle" settings. The bow mode calculates out to 100 yards ARC. The rifle mode goes to 800 yards.

Most archery long shots are 40 yards or less and most "riflemen" do well to keep it on a pie plate at three hundred yards.

I have a Nikon Rifle Hunter 550 and love it! But if it doesn't break the bank, defiantly go with Leupold. My buddy has one that will compensate for a large variety of calibers, as well as your specific bow. SWEET! Also crystal clear optics. I think its the mark II or something.
