They were talking about banning them here, too...increasing issues with CWD in WWA, and they suspect that "farmed" deer, used to produce the urine based scents, are probably major contributors.

I don't have the education to have a real opinion on this issue, have to take the word of the people who say they've been consulting the people who are supposed to have expertise in the field, which I hate doing...relying on the knowledge, education, and expertise of someone(s) several steps removed, and employed by the government, to boot (not all government employees are likely to be objectionable...I tend to like firemen, cops, and military personnel, but "government consultant" tends to be synonymous with "says what the current administration has already decided is true" and/or "not talented enough, even in his/her field of supposed expertise, to make a living in the private sector", in my experience..).

But if they're right, and I have a sneaking suspicion they are, it's not all that hard to scientifically establish means of communicating disease, and even less difficult to establish the commonality of occurrence of a specific disease in a captive population, then maybe we need to do some research on synthetic scents, or establish testing procedures to ensure "clean" scents, even though it'd mean scenting would become much more expensive.

I mean, conservatism is all about trying to establish, maintain, and control a HEALTHY population of wildlife...have to spend money to do that properly, it's like farming, can't stick a seed in the ground inn late February, and expect to have nice corn in June, have to weed, cultivate, prune bad leaves, spread fertilizer and pesticides, and so on. And that's doing it the easy, cheap way. Ask any Amish, or even a successful (if you can find one) wholly organic farmer, and have them describe what kind of process and work they have to do to bring in a crop, and their yield/acre ratio. Look at what's spent to keep "domestic" animal lines breeding healthy and true. Gonna cost to manage wildlife, just not as much as domesticated life, but also with looser guidelines for "success".

This is an area that I have a a very little bit of knowledge about. But what I do Know is that thier is no way the urine it self can be any worry for the spread of CWD. Like said earlier it is the farmed deer that are posing the risk for it. But agian here it is noat as big of threat as people play it out to be. Most of these "farms" take extermly good care of the deer they raise, as it is their lively hood. I am sorry but it really is no differant than farming cattle for milk and steaks. I really just think this is a way "big Bro" gov is trying to deminish the hunting heratage.

Possibly true. Lord knows, I don't agree with most of the new regs and "adjustments" to old regs, and a lot of them certainly seem to be aimed at doing nothing more than making hunting more difficult, risky, and generally, less attractive.

I've never understood how a group who proposes that they are superior to others because they believe in "buying local", being "more green", eating "healthier, organically grown" produce and meat (that is, if they'll eat meat at all), and all the other catch phrases, can completely fail to understand the most basic principals behind true conservationism.

Then again...if you look at the yield per acre for organic produce compared to "modernly produced" produce, and the pounds of meat per animal for "organically raised" meat, and "wild caught" fish, compared to those produced by "modern" methods, then look at their arguments over "using less "developed" land", and "preserving, and restoring, wildlife", maybe it makes a little more sense (you gotta think about that paragraph...)

You know, my daughter had the daughters (friends of hers from school) of two pair of extremely liberal, dedicated democrats, and "modern parents" (They don't believe in corporal or capital punishment, feeling neither deters the recipient, or others, they believe in keeping their kids' schedules so full of organized activities, and "beneficial activities" that they don't have time for much of a social life outside of school, and no time to be kids. You know the type.)...anyhow, these two tried, during the campaigns, to tell my daughter why she was "stupid" for believing McCain would be the better choice, over Obama (as an aside, this was her opinion, not spoon fed to her by her parents, she liked Palin, we were terrified by the thought of her in executive office, after watching her first interviews, while the opinions expressed by the other two girls look like they were spoon fed, pre-packaged opinions).

Man, I detoured a bunch, there.

Anyhow, these girls told my daughter she was "stupid" for supporting McCain, because he "wasn't green", and cited his support of "taller, multi-story building development" as their proof. The reason I mention this, is it directly demonstrates the lack of thinking behind many liberal stances. A 12 year old girl was able to refute this stance, a common one taken by "greens", easily, and with impeccable logic. She drew out a normal, one story mall, with outside parking, on grid paper, showed it to the girls, and asked them "does this look like our mall?". They agreed that it did. Then she drew a three story mall, half the "land use" size of the current one, and moved the parking into two underground garages, and one roof garage. She totaled MORE parking area, all CLOSER to mall entrances, MORE square footage for and per store, and demonstrated how this design allowed for more than 2/3 of the land currently occupied by the standing mall, and parking, and satellite buildings, to be dedicated to "green" support...tree-filled walking park, greenbelt, whatever they wanted.

Both girls were absolutely stunned. Hmmmm...

When my girl told me about this, and how very obvious the fault in the statement was, to her, at that age, and how quickly and easily she refuted it, I couldn't help but LMAO.

See thats one of my issue, all the Liberals want to say they are "green" and for the enviroment, but only when its convenate for them to be. And they also fail to see the fact that we hunters where essentailly the first enviromentalist, with all that orginzations like NWTF, and DU, and Delta waterfowl, and the Rocky Mtn. Elk foundation do to protect the land we hunt. Also what we hunters do every year, with planting food plots for the deer and other animals we hunt. I mean sure we want them to be around so we can hunt them for years down the road, but the fact that their is a huntable number of animals mean they are alive and doing very well. And I am sorry you don't get much more organic than wild game supper.
