I just won a .308 rem model 7 and the 2 piece leupold bases I bought prevent the bolt from closing. So I swapped them for an one piece leupold base for a model 700 SA and it dosen't match up properly. Does anyone have any suggestions that would help? I turned the rear base around which works but looks tacky.

First the 700 bases wont work at all.

Second try moving the screws to the other holes. There should be 4 screws try them in different holes until it works. The screws are different in length and have a proper location. Leupold does not make light of this in their instructions but its true.

I had the same problem with a model 700 once.

Good luck!!

Leupold makes a 1 peice base for a specifically for a model 7. I am sure Brownells or Midway carries them.

The Model 7 uses bases for a Remington XP-100 target pistol...

In gloss the Leupold part number is 50005
In matte it's 50006 and stainless 50161

These are all the Leupold one piece mounts...

I am unclear on what is preventing the bolt from closing. Is it a clearance is issue with the base, scope and bolt or is internal problem like screw length?

If I remember right, the shorter screws go in the back...but don't quote me. The screw length is a common problem and easily remedied. I am curious why it works reversing the rear base...that sounds like a clearance thing but if the seating depth of the screws in the rear base are different enough to compensate for the wrong screw length then reversing the rear base would fix the problem. HMMMMMMM very interesting.

Try this...instead of reversing the base, reverse the screws in the base. The next option of course would be to remove all the screws and replace them one by one starting with the rear most screw and testing the bolt after each one.

Good luck and let us know what you came up with...it may help someone else down the road.

I went back to my gun shop and swapped the bases and rings plus $20 for a streamlight stinger led C4. But I did order some plan ole weavers and they work just fine. Thanks for the advice though

Glad you got your problem solved...nice light by the way. Silver Creek? Is that south MS...between Collins and Brookhaven?

Good Luck to you
