You want to go with a Mathews DXT or any other Mathews you choose I have been shooting them for the last ten years and there is no other bow out there that compares in my opinion.

You're gonna be getting everyone's personnel opinion on this one bud. All the bows made today are good. Hoyt,Mathews,Bowtech,Diamond,Martin,Ross, And so many others. My suggestion is go to a proshop with an open mind and shoot as many as you can. The bow for you is out there and you''ll know it when you shoot it. Here is my opinion you can't get much better than the Hoyt hawk series bows. They are affordable and very smooth to shoot. I do not have one but shoot the turbohawk everytime I go to my buddies proshop. For me I like it better than the Alphamax and it is $300 cheaper. Good Luck in your quest. wink.gif

You should shoot both of your choices. If you have never owned a bow then DO NOT buy one from a mail order catalog. Go to as many different dealers you can and shoot any that are in your price range. Ask them to explain brace height, axle to axle length and letoff. These are three very important statistics on any bow. There are a lot of bows out there and they will all shoot accurately. Also, most bows are gonna shoot the same speed, give or take a few feet per second, so shoot your choices and buy the one that feels more comfortable to hold at full draw. Also, when you shoot, pay attention to the vibration you feel in your bow hand and the noise of the string. That's probably the biggest difference between most bows these days is shot noise and hand shock. Let us know if you have any more questions and good luck!
By the way, if it were me, I would probably go with the Martin. They have been around for a long time and I have never heard anyone complain about them. I personally like the slimmer grip on the Martin. It will generally translate into more consistent hand placement and that will bring more accuracy. I have shot them both and the grip on the Martin was Better for me but you need to shoot them both to make sure you like it better than the diamond.

i had my friend sorda explain those to me but i forgot. i am leaning more to the diamond because the bows poundage is 40 50 60 70, but the obe thing i like about the martin is that it has no recoil, and no noise. unsure.gif

You really need to shoot different bows to see what feels right for you, also, its hard to tell unless the bow your shooting is set with the right draw length for you. Draw length is sooo important to consistant shooting. I see so many shooters that dont put enough thought into getting their draw length set right. It can make all the difference in the world.

I was looking at the bows you are interested in and just from looking i think i like the Martin best. I dont know what the Martin or the Diamond sell for but the Bow Madness they have is very over priced, i can get it with the same package here at Dick's for 499.00, and its the exact same outfit, i dont understand their 619.00 price tag. Looks to me like they are too high on their prices. Have you checked any other shops.

Good luck on what ever you choose.

i will add, try to find one with a wide range of draw length adjustment also. for each bow there will a sweet spot in the draw length that just allows for better groups. you may have a 28 inch draw, but the bow may well shot better for you at just a 1/2 inch or inch shorter. it also helps if you ever try to sell it.

this, by the way, would rule out mathews. as far as i know, even though they make a pretty good bow, they are not adjustable for draw length. so, if you don't get it perfect when you buy it (real, real hard to do as a newbie) then your just stuck with it. the types that use modules, while adjustable, are expensive to adjust. i think the module on my truth 2 costs about 20 bucks. it does have a half inch or so of adjustment without the module, but still, for a newbie, there may be a better option. just something to think about.

I just picked up a Diamond Rock tonight to try it out I will let you know what I think about it. I have not shot it yet but it is light and just can't wait to shoot it.

plus i am 13 so i want a good first bow that will last me, my draw lenght is about 26.7.

Go to a local archer shop, or a Bass Pro, Cabelas, or Gander Mt and they should all have indoor ranges that you can test shoot any bow to see what you like. I would sudgest getting the one that is the most comfortable. You might end up going home with something completely different.

Its really up to you to decide, but last year I shot the diamond rock and this year I got the martin cheetah and as for me there is no comparison........ the martin cheetah is a lot smoother, to draw and to shoot. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE... SHOOT IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT smile.gif smile.gif
elk_man5283
I am the friend He mentioned earlier. i have the martin cheetah and i really like it. My dad has the diamond. nd after this season i am going to swith to the diamond as well. my advise would be go to a pro shop where you can shoot them both, and maybe even a couple more bows. and buy what feels good to you. just because someone else likes a bow that doesn't mean you will. there are a lot of good bows on the market today, and you DON'T have to spend a $1000.00 to get one. elk_man5283 why dont you save your friend some money and sell him your bow if your gonna get a new one anyway....then you can tell him everything about it and show him how to adjust the draw length.....just my opinion.....i would do it for my friend

If you're on a budget check out Mission archery,They are owned by Mathews and built on the technology developed by Mathews. They are well built and priced really well.
bowhunt24/7
here is my view on this. Do what everyone on here is telling you to do. You need to go to a pro shop and shoot a couple of different bows. You could shoot both of these bows and find out that you don't like the feel of either one of them. You have mentioned a couple of times about the draw weight adjustments on the bows, don't worry about that so much. 45 pounds can kill any animal in North America if the arrow is put in the right place. What you need to do is look for the bow that just fits you the best in the price range that you are looking at.

If you like the Diamond line then look at the Bow Tech bows. Of course they are the same company but Bow Tech bows seem to be about $100. cheaper across the board. My Bow Tech, Patriot II (matches a black Ice) is the smoothest bow I have shot in the 50 years I have been shooting. It also has an adjustable draw stop which is great.
Good luck on getting a great bow and shoot alot.
Getting a lot of practice can make any bow better. wink.gif

Ah a left handed archer. A lad after my own heart. You are so lucky to be buying a bow today and not twenty years ago when left handed anything was hard to find. laugh.gif

Hey make sure he is left handed but also left eye domiinate too. If he happens to be right eye dominate then he really needs to start shooting right handed even if he is left handed.

All of the bowtechs I have seen are more expensive than the Diamonds, they are the same bow basically anyways so get the diamond. The new PSE bows are great, I would reccomend them

I've seen PSE but never really looked at it..... are they good???

Pse is very good. They stand behind their bows just like mathews does. The bow madness was given high marks for price to performance by field and stream. I'm not sure about draw length adjustibility though. You should shoot everything in your price range and really shop around until you find one that fits your needs. If you get in a hurry, chances are, you will not be happy with your choice.
I like Martin and pse better than diamond but that is just my opinion. Any of them will provide years of service. Good luck.
Kyhunter03
I went and looked at the Madness and wow, its a nice looking bow for sure, but, when i drew it back, i couldnt believe how hard it was to draw. It was ok til you get back just before the valley and it got really hard. In order to get it fully drawn, you have to really get into it and it makes it hard to keep from jerking, moving your body to get at full draw.
Had it not been for that, i would have brought it home with me. The price was great at 499.00 for it completely acc. with everything on it. Plus, its a very cool looking bow.

Dale.

I am just wondering which bow you tried, because there are three the Bow Madness XS, the Bow Madness, and the Bow Madness XL. I have heard that the XS is by far the hardest one to pull back, but it is the cheapest.

I now am going to get The Rock for sure, but i am struggling to get the bow without the packege or with the packege here is the sight.

Here is a link to a site that will set your bow up for you. I know the price is a little bit more, but it comes with many more things than a normal package, It even comes with a release, hard case, and arrows. If the package is for someone who is just starting out and doesn't have all of the accesories this is a great deal that will save a bunch of money. The option they give you to pick the accesories you want is great too. The bow that I am shooting right now was purchased as a Ready to hunt package from this site and I couldn't be happier. P.M. me if you have any questions about this.

10-4 on shooting as many as possable!

Be sure the draw lengths and weights are all set for you. I would NOT get a 70 pound draw.
A lighter draw will let you foucus on your shooting tecnique. It doesn't matter how fast the missile is if you can't hit a barn (or you're in a cast with a torn rotator cuff).

Don't forget to check out the Bears.
