They are big enough. I prefer a 12 gauge but the 20 will work its what I started with. Cost varies alot. Find a good location and build a man made bling with natural plants, trees and such from the area. You can get a doz decoys for around $40.Get a good beginners call for $30 max. Get a few boxes of shells. Some sort of a boat is nice and waders as well. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars that could be invested just stick to the basics right now.
The best tip I can give you is go with someone who already hunts. That will cut down alot of the cost and you will learn what you need and what works.

Yeah like the guy above me said, it is best of youa can find a buddy or some one to with starting out. But if you wnat to buy your own supplies you really can spend as little or as much as you want, you cn find a dozen mallard decoys for like 20bucks that will do great, and you can get elcheapo rubber waders at most fishing stores for like 45 bucks and they get the job done. You don't really need all the flashy gadets and gismos starting out and good jerk string riged to acouple decoys does a world of good and it is cheap as you can buy sting.
