I’m not a turkey hunter, yet.
I’ve seen the “Locator Call Packs” containing woodpecker, crow and owl calls and would like to know, what’s the deal?

Are they enemies? I know crows are opportunists and owls top predators. I also know you’ve never heard a racket until a murder of crows has located an owl. But woodpeckers???

Are we not alone in our taste for turkey goodies?

Welcome to your new addiction...turkey hunting. smile.gif

I use an owl hooter in the mornings and typically just a hen yelp in the afternoon...sometimes a crow call if needed. You're basically trying to get them to "shock-gobble" so you can locate them. Never tried a woodpecker call but yes I've heard turkeys gobble at just about anything.

One time it was opening day of gun deer season and there was a large flock of turkeys in our woods that would gobble to the rifle shots.

I thought it was just a coincidence at first, but after the 4th or 5th time I figured it out. Couldn't believe it.

Funny how sometimes they'll gobble at literally everything and some days...when you're out hunting of course, you can't get them to gobble for anything!! smile.gif

Someone that the people on the Cabin are familiar with uses an air horn. He says it works every time, day or night, rain or shine and everything in between.

I've heard them gobble at crows, owls, cows, roosters, thunder, gun shots, hawks, and horns. Who knows why they gobble at all these things. But they do. I carry an owl and crow call with me.

in the spring toms will think that they are the best there is because this is their time to shine to impress the babes and when the hear these calls the gobblers gobble to basically say hey i own the roost here.

I have heard toms gobble a gun shots in the spring on a couple occasions, it amazes me what they will sound off at sometimes.
