sad.gif Well hello again fellow hunters. I am having hell of a time getting the coyotes in at night. Well there was the other night but I was over excited and missed. We went out tonight and did some calling after we heard a solo coyote barking at our neighbor while he was walking his dogs. We live out in the country and are surrounded by three corn fields and two hay fields. We were just finishing up bow practice when we heard the coyote. We put our bows and grabbed the .17hmr and the .270 Remington. We went out to the corner of the corn field and hay field. We did a series of lone howls and double howls. That’s when we heard a pack of coyotes. We then heard them getting closer but then they stopped calling. Just like that. No more response from any of the coyotes. What are we doing wrong? We were using the hot dogg calls. I can get them to call and get to a certain point but when there’s two of us calling they seem to only call but not really come in. what am I doing wrong please help. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. smile.gif

Well I have had success in the past with the distress call using the ki-yi. The only thing is that what we want to know is why they stop calling? Or is it just that they call out to let us know that they are there and not happy that we are in there territory. I also have had them do their challenge bark at me and id do it right back. Well I’ll have to try it out and watch my truth DVD’s and also see what I am doing wrong. Thanks for the help.

Questions:
#1: How often/frequently have you called this same area/stand?
#2: Are you only howling? And how many times are you howling?
#3: Was the wind blowing from your stand towards where the coyotes were?
Knowing these things, may, help us help you.

Questions:
#1: How often/frequently have you called this same area/stand?
we just started to hunting this area. its behind the house in the country with three corn feilds to the north, two hay feilds in the center and a walnut orchards in the east. lots of places for these guys to hide and run through.
#2: Are you only howling? And how many times are you howling?
ive done a couple of howls then the serinade. rabbit distress calls. lil more howls.
#3: Was the wind blowing from your stand towards where the coyotes were?
we actually were with the wind in our face. the wind was blowing from the north east and we were out in the south corner of the hay feild behind the house.
Knowing these things, may, help us help you.

well ok guys good news and a lil bad news. we finally got our callings down and brought in a coyote. the only thing is that our red light was giving us problems and my father-inlaw didnt get the shot of cause my arms got tired of holding up the light. well one of these days we are going to do a evening hunt so that way we dont need the spot light. so as soon as we get these biger dogs we will post them.

you may have done nothing wrong. i noticed when calling and gettin some respones, they will quit responding when they start to head toward you to check out the sound. This may not always be the case of course but if after getting some howls back and then nothing, sit still, keep your eyes peeled and get ready!
