Hey everyone, I'm looking to start goose hunting. I have some private property that I can hunt, the geese drive the guy crazy.

I was looking at the Primos Mastering the Art for goose calling with the honky tonk call. Let me know what you all think and if that is a good start or if you would recommend something else?

That package is a great starter kit!

I bought the DVD and the Honky Tonk. The DVD is fantastic. As long as you practice 10 to 15 minutes a day you'll be fine.
It's well worth the money.

That is how I got started years ago and I still think today that the Honky Tonk
is a go to call. It is surely one of the easier calls to blow and control. Congrats
on getting the bug on goose hunting I love it !

All of the Primos Mastering the Art Series DVD's are awesome. Just watching the DVD and practicing a bit should have you ready in no time. I have had so many hunters come up to me and tell me how much they learned from them. Good luck!

its what I bought when I started. But you could save the money and go straight to Zinks and get his Ancient Art of Paralyzing Geese this video is way more detailed than the primos DVD. Not to recomend the Zinks SR-I either. biggrin.gif

I currently use a short reed goose call but i started with a big river flut call. go to your local sporting goods store be it a cabelas, gander mtn, or what have you and pick up 5,6,7, calls and blow all of them to see what you like the best. you have more volume with a short reed, and more flucuation in tone, sound, murmors and you can do more with a short reed than a flute. Be prepared to spend some money 75-150$ when you wanna make a purchase of a call of Zinks, Grounds, Foils, Rnt or for that matter any acrylic call. I live in michigan and bought a david lewis custom call. He has what is called the michigander and the little gander. i blow the michigander and love it. I paid 75$ for mine, 2 years ago. I hunt with a group of 4 other guys and we kill 200+ canadas a year, Hunting almost solely on the weekends, i do about 95% of the calling and I am hooked on a short reed and feel that it has made us more successful. Most importantly is to get a call you a comfortable blowing and feel good about.Best of luck this year, and with any luck you will have a new addiction when you shot that first goose that you know you called to its demise.
T.K.
buck gardner makes a good one, the quackhead goozilla sounds great, and i gota pit boss but its harder to blow
