I booked a spring black bear bowhunt in Quebec for 2010 recently and was hoping to get a few tips from the guys who have "been there done that." What should I expect as far as bugs? Would it be wise to invest in a thermacell or a bug suit? Or will it even be that bad? Were looking at the first week of June also..Any other tips would be great.
Thanks guys, Jake

Weather will always play a bit of a factor. I would have to say expect bugs and flys and expect lots of them. Every time I've been up north to spring bear hunt it has been crazy. I'm talking making sure there is no exposed skin at ALL! Thermacell will help and won't hurt the chances of harvesting a bear. I've hunted in the spring where we had to duck tape our sleeve and pant leg openings. Any visible opening those little gnats, bugs etc. would find and leave welts that lasted for weeks. It's going to be better if your more than prepared and if you don't need everything that's fine.
Although the bugs can be so thick sometimes you cant even see your gloves, it's all forgotten when that big old bear comes in silently and catches you off guard.

i have only bear hunted in Ontario, but i think it would be about the same. be prepaired for bugs they will be bad, they didn't bother me much, but they ate my brother and brother inlaw up. they that welts all over the place.
Good Luck on your hunt.
