I have a hoyt sierra tec that my step daughter has been shooting alot because she wants to try bowhunting this year. Yesturday I bulled the bow back with my hand held bow scale to check the poundage and when I started to release the draw, to my surprise the string rolled right off the cam.
Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this to happen?

I looked the bow over the best that I know how and did not find any obvious damage wich there shoulnt be cuz the bow is about 6 yrs old and I dont believe its been shot but maybe 150-200 times.

I do all my work to my bows so I put the bow in my press and went to put the string back on only to find out that the bowpress that I recently bought( ultra press from over on archery talk) will not press the striaghtened limbs enough to put the string back on. Needless to say that press will be going down the road. I buy my own euipment and learn to do things myself so I dont have to pay proshops to do what I love to do and that is work on bows.
Anyways, can anyone one give me ideas what I can look for as possible reasons that string may have come off like that? and any suggestions on a new press would be helpfull as well. The fact that the press wouldnt do what I wanted ticked me off far more than the bowstring did ,cuz now I have to take it some where to get it fixed.

Thanks and sorry for rambling

it really just sounds like you "torqued" the bow as you were letting it up. of course, i could be wrong. and as far as the press goes, i got a portable press, and it works on everything i have ever hooked it to. i forget the name, but it's just a cable and some brackets for the limb tips, and a screw jack type device. good stuff.

I am not sure if something got in the string track or what. Look at the cam to make sure that there are no dings near the cable slot.

As for the bow press, some are only made for parallel bows now, so make sure you order one that works for both. Apple makes one that does stardard limb bows.
