I have a two year old German Shepherd at home that points. I have never heard of a dog, especially a German Shepherd, that points without being trained to do so. I had him out for a walk a couple of months ago and he just stopped when we were crossing a field and did a perfect point. I thought he just smelled something in the grass and as I got closer out came a grouse. Anyone else ever have anything like this?

Back in the early 1970's my dad hunted exclusively with a pure breed German shepherd.

I killed my 1st pheasant over her when I was 13 yrs. old.

When she got hot on a bird that tail would wag a mile a minute, she'd never go out of range like I've seen many other dogs do. She'd look back at you when she was starting to get out there, and kinda made you think she was wondering what was taking you take so long to stay with her.

She worked a "S" pattern in the field, until she got hot on a bird.

I have seen her point on a occaisioal bird, but it wasn't something that she always did.

Back in those days my dad's friends would come out to hunt behind her just for the experience because they couldn't believe how great of a bird dog she was.

She'd even retrieve downed birds.

It was a great experience growing up with her and my dad in the field.
