How do you guys clean your ML's in the tight spots. I have a brush, and all the gadgets, I've used flathead screwdrivers with multiple patches and twisted till I was sore with it...and still have some spots along the bends of the barrel that have a touch of residue...
any suggestions...I have a TC...and love it! Just want it spotless all the time!

Submerge that bad boy.... easily done with a large round tube of PVC... one time expense is a little $$ for the cleaner.... but machine cleaner can be used cheaper...
just submerge, let soak, remove, wipe dry...

Thats a good idea on the pvc. Ive found the sooner I clean mine after being shot the better. I use a toothbrush and TC muzzeloader bore cleaner. I also use the heck out of bore butter after cleanings. Seems it cleans up easier each time once that bore butter "seasons" the metal.
I also use a air compressor blow attachment on my breech plugs after a good soaking in bore cleaner.

It could be some powder residue trapped under some plastic residue. Scrubbing with a brash brush should loosen it up, but a good solvent will help - I like CVA's solvent, but the T/C stuff works good too. If it still won't come as clean as you like, try J-B Non-Embedding Bore Cleaning Compound. Some sporting goods stores carry it, but you're more likely to find it at Brownell's. It will get out any leftover fouling, and will really clean your bore up nice. For that better-than-new mirror polish, get some J-B Bore Brite to go with it. A few sessions with that stuff and your bore will be hand lapped the same way many competition shooters do it. It can really help to reduce flyers, variations in velocity from shot to shot, and will make your bore easier to clean and keep clean.

thanks guys...I never thought of using my air compressor after breaking it down! The residue I'm talking about is close to the end of my breech where the barrel gets smaller heading out towards the muzzle...there is a little ledge in there that has some black residue on it..I'm going to go do it right now!

I may be in left field here but I will tell you what works for me. I use 777 pellets which are pretty easy to clean anyway. As far as the cleaning goes, I use windex. I just take off the barrel and spray it in for the breech end. I put a paper towel on the ground and put the end of the barrel on it. I soak the inside of the barrel down good and just use bore patches to wipe it out. The inside of my bore shines like a mirror when I am done and my gun shoots great. Like I said, this might not be the right thing to do but It works for me. Another plus is that I don't have that strong solvent smell on my gun. This comes in handy during hunting season. If I hunt and shoot my gun, I will clean it good and put a fresh load in before hunting again.

this year was my first year with a muzzleoader and i was using my buddies .54 for mule deer. after sighting it in we used boiling water and poured down the barrel with a funnel and it worked great. then we also unscrewed the internal parts and boiled them in a pot. after that we ran some patches.the thing was spotless and we fired 7 rounds before we cleaned it. ended up gettin 26 inch wide 5 by 4 too. just be carefull cuz it is boiling water and it gets the barrel a lil warm

Wow, windex!? Never thought of that. I've used windex for all kinds of crap that isn't cleaning glass, but to clean a muzzleloader with it! Gonna have to try that out. Thanks.

Yeah, thats what I thought when a guy told me to try it. I thought it sounded crazy too but it worked so I have been doing it ever since. Give it a try and let me know how it works out for ya.

good point about the solvent smell...we take so many steps to reduce our scent in the woods to put all those chemicals in our guns and tote them along with us! You guys have given me plenty of ideas...my barrels shines like new, just some of the hard to reach spots I want perfecto again! Thanks again

Yeah, I have actually gone as far as swabbing the barrel out with scent killer after I clean with windex. I only do that during the season though.

Id make sure to get all the scent killer outta there as soon as you could ..many of them have a high salt content. Salt on metal is never good.
