Is it possible to train black lab to hunt squirrel???

i am curious to know this too.. i have a black lab pup, and he can fetch, and obeys commands like sit, speak, shake, lay down. he is about a year old, but has learned and obeyed commands for a while now. he is very intellegent, and i want to get him hunting.. any ideas??

Yes you can train a black lab to hunt squirrel. I hate to say it but my black lab loves squirrel as much as she loves grouse hunting. I would much rather her be a grouse dog then a squirrel dog, but being good at both has worked out for me. I personally didn't train her for squirrel, but I did for grouse. The guy that I got her from started working with her on squirrel and he said that he used squirrel scent and a stuffed squirrel for her to learn on. Now she will tree a squirrel just as good as she flushes grouse for me. I know that gun dog supply sales the squirrel scent for training dogs. Hope this helps a little .

you guys got me wonderin now. my lab/golden retreiver already is a bird dog, and waterfowler. now that we live in town he tree's squirrels all the time. i'm going to have o take him an find ot whathe can do.
