How many of you keep the yote's you shoot for the pelt?
Or do you let some lay?

I keep the pelt and skull. I personally feel bad to let them lay because there is good use with the pelt, and I don't kill any type of game with out using something on it because I feel it deserves at least that, haha. Except crows etc. Thats just my personal thoughts on the matter, I don't really have a problem with other people letting them lay though.

I kills them for my friends survival, if they are not tore up to bad I haul them off to a buyer that takes them in the round, get less money, but don't have to learn proper skinning techniques plus they is stinking, disease and vermin infested ahemmmmmmmms.

If its a good yote with little damage then I keep it. But if its a bloody stinky mess i leave them. But I do agree with archer jr about leaving the game you shoot and such.

Yotes are not game they are VERMIN. A plague on the land. Not even to be considered in the same class as deer, elk, bears, rabbits or squirels. Maybe wolves would be a good place to put them. And if you think wolves is good, we westerners that got them pushed upon us would be glad for you to have a few planted in your area. Central park is fairly large how about there for starters. I digress sorry.

Its a lot of work tanninng a hide yourself. Its not the same either unless you use all the chemicals and such that a hide shop uses. I just have it done, costs me about 50 bucks a deer hide, so less for a yote.

I've only shot one, and since he was my first one, I had him tanned. He STUNK! My husband skinned him for me, and I don't care to smell that again.

LOL.Just think of everything they will eat and combine the odors. Yes they do stink. My buddy asked if I would gut his coyote he wanted to get mounted. His taxidermist wouldn't take it unless it was gutted??. So all the guys at deer camp were standing there shaking their heads. "Nope not me, I'm not guttin that thing." So I had to be the real tough guy.Thee man." Okay I'll do it!" Bunch of wooses. I just ate a large camp size meal. The first incision wasn't bad for a second. After that second was up! Not good, not good at all. And in front of everyone. Had some sympathy puker's there. So i wasn't completely alone. Nasty??? Not even the word for it. Don't care what anyone thinks either, you can call me sally. If I ever decide to get one mounted. I won't be goin to that taxidermist.nuh uh

Just wondering why you didn't just skin it, and leave the guts intact??
BTW, thanks for the laugh!! LOL! THAT is a funny story!

we usually tan the pelts of the ones that we shoot unless they are really mangey then you jist dont want to even touch them.

Depends on the condition of the pelt and wether I can stomach skinning them. Those I do keep 75% I flesh the hide and dry it on a stretcher to sell to a dealer. Looks like $20-25 a hide this year but that may go up. Trapping is much more effective to make money on them.

I keep the skulls and sometimes the pelt. Love coyote skulls, though. They look great.

I keep every dog I shoot. they pay for my gas to go out an hunt that day. but i am leaning more to the bobcats these days an if i get one dog an a cat then the dog paid for my gas an I come out money ahead. Now granted I dont just do it for the money its a passion. The fur check is just the bonus. I dont believe in letting them lay unless they are diseased. Personal prefference though.

I guess that particular taxidermist wants the guts out. Maybe he think's they'll smell better.

And as for funny stories. The story of my life. Especially hunting! If it can happen ,it will happen to me. I should write a book.

It depends for me, if it's got mange or I blow a big hole out the other side of it then there's really no point to pick it up.

I keep all mine and all the game i shoot i use it and get something out of it well except for crows but i think its a proper thing to do to get some use out of something you killed.
