Out of these four duck call companies which one would you choose to use personally for open water rice fields?
RNT
Quackhead
Zink
Foiles
What Model?
What would you suggest for someone who hunts nothing but rice fields in California, and likes low raspy calls. Where the hail call doesn't string together like a horn, so you can hear individual quacks.
I My self am leaning towards the Quack head Q-unit acrylic call. Any input would help. Please comment before christmas because this call will be a gift christmas day.

I would think it would be hard to beat the Quackhead J-frame, that thing will make your ears bleed, and doesn't use a lot of air pressure.

I hunt nothing but rice fields and that is all I have ever done but that is all the way in Texas. We are talking different fly zones all together! What are you generally shooting in Cali? We tend to get a pretty thick mix here. Let me know what your normal day bag is like and I will talk to some pros here and see what they have to think.

We shoot pintails, all species of teal, gawall, spoonies, ringneck, and widgeon. Now most of those arte whistling duck but they all respond well to a mallard call as i have learned from my dad.
just to add something we also shoot Snow geese and Specs...even though it has nothing to do with a duck call.
the ducks in California really responed welll to a fast and deep sounding feeding call.
My normal bag will be 2 teal and 2 more ducks most likely being spoonies or widgeon

I agree. I have a Big guy call in Cabola wood and have never got more compliments in my life. You should look at that one.

Well I finally made my descion. i went down to my local sporting goods shop and was able to blow a variety of different calls. Haydels, Zink, J.J. Lares, Iverson, Buck and Gander.
Of all those brands i really favored the zink power hen. To cover my basis of a chrimas gift and purchase the "right" one so I bought a double reed power hen and a single reed power hen. I found the feeding chuckle to be quite appealing and the hail call to crisp and loud.
Along with those two duck calls i got my dad a new call lanyard, primos high roller whistle, and Zink duck hunting DVD. All together i think it would make a great christmas gift for any duck hunter.
