I rolled one up using my 870 super mag while turkey hunting last fall. He came into my turkey calls.. I got him at about 15 yards. My first shot wasnt too good, cliped him in the butt

. But I finished him off with a quick follow up headshot. Used 3 1/2 inch remington nitro #5s turkey loads. Probably not the recomended shot gun shell, but it worked for me.

i've seen many rolled with the Hevi-Shot "Dead Coyote" loads in T shot out of turkey guns, deadly from point blank to 75 yards or more

we dont have many coyotes here were i live but near thick timber and the rest is open farm ground. far northeast iowa has alot more to offer. i guess that is were to go. does anyone know if it screws up the coyote hunting just after the shotgun season on deer? or doesnt it realy matter to them? i know they have more to eat cuz all the gut piles, but dont realy know if that matters.

Yes quite a few. I use my turkey loads #5's win extended range 3". Also use 2's and 4's. Prefer the 2's though. We usually carry rifle in a 222,223 even a 243. And we alway's take a shotgun. You never know how fast or close they may come in. A shotgun will put em down in a hurry under 40 yd's. Oh and with an extra full choke also. Good luck whack a few.

When I carry a shotgun I carry an old 12 gauge 2 3/4 side by side. An I shot them with a 4 buck. My first dog I ever shot was with a shot gun an I folled him at about 10 feet out in eastern colorado it was cool should of been there.

If you are shooting a shotgun at very close range, just about any shot size will work. By close range, I'm talking about withing 15 yards. Most of the coyotes I have killed with a shotgun have been killed that close, all the way down to within 2 or 3 yards. Make sure you have a pretty tight choke, no matter what the distance. I have never shot a coyote with a shotgun past about 30 yards, but I'm certain the HevyShot, say 5 shot or bigger, would work. It sure works on turkeys.
