Do yourself a favor and forget those two and come to Ky. We got lots of birds and the public land to hunt on too. Try the Daniel Boone National forrest,it's huge and goes from one end of the state to the other. Birds there don't recieve that much pressure cause it's so much land.

Any suggestion for guides down there to contact for turkey hunting?

No guides, just camp up in the northern part of the Daniel Boone forrest around Morehead or areas on the map near the forrest. There are plenty of campgrounds. Some counties like Leslie are 90% public land with all day hunting and plenty of birds. Like i said the national forrest goes from the southern end of the state all the way to the North-east end. Two bird season and as far as out of state tags go there cheap compared to other states. We got plenty of wildlife managment area to hunt too. they are state opperated and some even have camping and gun ranges. Alot of people will still let you hunt private land in eastern ky just by askin nice and bein respectful. Trust me you won't regret comin down. Our state kill was over 28,000 last season. ohio and wv both don't add to that and its another two hours drivin for more birds. Let me know what your needs are and I can tell you what I know about it.

I don't want to discourage you from going with a guide if that is your preference, but WV has 100s of thousands of acres of WMA and National forest land. You can save a bundle by just hunting public land, and my experience has been that the public land in that state is excellent. The same is true for Maryland and Virginia; I have no experience with Ohio.

Public land gets a bad rap sometimes but honestly there is some very good hunting on public ground in the east, it just takes a little pre-hunt homework and then the will to go find it. Some areas will not pan out, while others will. I've spent a lot of money on gas and have driven countless miles scouting and hunting public ground in the Eastern US obver the past 20 years, and I have rarely been disappointed. The key is to work hard and find the right spots.

Having said that, when you do find some good locations don't blab about it. I know that sounds selfish but given the fact you have to work to find them its your right. Protect them as long as you can. wink.gif

Good luck.

I think about $125 or in the ball park for Ky. West Virginia ain't bad on fees either. Some states go nuts on the fees for out of staters. I think i'll head to Tenn. they got lots of birds and a 4 bird limit. Guides are good but for the money i'd rather hunt a couple years on free public land as the cost of one year on somebody property.

i live in northern ohio and have found that coshocton county AEP public land produces alot of birds taken during the spring hunt. not much pressure because it is so large.
