Ok, Not sure if this goes here but it seems like the most logical place as it is "equipment".
Ive got a 6 year old Chocolate Lab male, very good dog probalby the best I have had. Im thinking of getting another dog, but not sure what to get.
I do Upland(Pheasant, Grouse, Dove) and some Waterfowl, looking to get into it more though. So Im not looking for a pointer.
I have heard that Females are the "better" dog, any truth to this? My male is very respectful and listens very well, never been really trained and I dont use a collar on him. So Im open on that area.
Im open to other breeds, but I dont know what to look for. Im the type that will stay out all day if I can, so I would need a dog that can do the same I guess. A buddy of mine swears by Irish Setters, all he has ever owned and has very good luck with them.
I know different places get different prices for the dog, my limit would be around $600-$800. Dont know if that helps or not.
Thanks for all the help,
Cliff

One of my friends swear by Chesapeake Bays. He used his for pheasant, grouse, duck, and geese. She was loyal and smart. Not sure about the male/female thing. I have a male and a female dog, and the dang female runs off all the time!! The male is calmer and more respectful. So I think it really depends on the dog and the personality.

I just bought my second pointing lab. I pay good money for them (1200.00). But they are awesome dogs that belong in the field or a duck blind. I would recommend a dual purpose lab if you are willing to spend the money.

I guess thats what Im looking for. I paid $500 for my lab I have now, well worth it. Ive had Golden's before and this is my first lab. Im glad I made the switch.I guess what it boils down too, is that I have to save a little more money and get the right dog.
