I should have put this in my other post, but can you use a locator call on fall birds say in the morning walking in??
nyturkeyduster
You can use locater calls but not like owl hoots and crow calls. What I do in fall is go in in the early morning and make tree yelps, regular yelps and kee-kee runs to loacte birds while they are still on the roost. Most often, fall family flocks make a lot of racket in the morning, so most of the time, they will be very vocal and willing to answer your calls. Good luck.

Also, there have been a few times when fall gobblers answered my own gobbles.

100% agreed.... in the fall turkey calls are your locator calls... fly down cackes and fighting purrs with wing flaps never fail to get them talking

I have tryed all locator calls in the fall. I have had em reply to the hoot tube alot, and the yote yelp in late evening. Not much on the crow, but a bluejay call can get em to talk too! I have even called em in like it was spring time too. But I put out 6 decoys when attempting that kinda calling though!

Great!! Thanks guys, well tomorrows the big day, but its supposed to be really crappy out rain/snow mix, and the temps are going to drop fast, from 50's to 30's in the afternoon, hope this doesn't affect us to much, but I have a feeling it will..... sad.gif

They are like deer Joe they live in the weather all year long they will do the same thing tomorrow that they did today!Search for food and get ready for winter!Rainy days concentrate on the open fields and pastures, and protected side hills where they can scratch for food!If it gets truly nasty go down in the thick gullies you got out there and dig in and just do some soft yelps and purrs!Flip some leaves around so it sounds like other birds are scratching in there!Fighting purrs work well if you know there is a group of toms in the area, could draw them in!I don't know about you but I roost birds at night, locate them in the fields and watch them go up into the woods and to where you think they will fly up for the night!Gives you a better starting point in the morning! Also if it is going to be nasty in the morning, they already know it and will more than likely roost in thicker pines for some shelter from the weather, which means they will fly down later than usual!

Thanks Pete,

I'll try and explain to you what the deal is with this hunt, I am going in blind, no scouting, nothing, just going off the land owners sightings. I'll Pm you. It will be easier.
