Anyone heard word on the population of chukars in Oregon and Idaho? I haven't had time to get out hunting them as I've been deer hunting and elk hunting - last year was a down year and I'm wondering if the numbers have rebounded at all.

I stick to the basics, salt, pepper, olive oil, grill, eat and enjoy.
Also goes great in soup, instead of chicken.

That's what I'm wondering. I haven't been out this year - didn't get out last year either because the population was so poor. I'm wondering if anyone has heard if they've rebounded this year before I go out this season. Might do another year of chasing coyotes instead...the Owyhees looked bare of birds when I was in there and Brownlee is thin judging from the fishing trips I've taken in there - would sure like to hear some good news about the birds, though because they sure are fun to hunt!

Anybody here in Oregon or Idaho doing any good? Say around Brownlee? I guess I could always just take a jaunt out there myself - do some investigative research.

Numbers are real low in S. Idaho according to fish and game biologists I have talked to. I know they are low on the S. Fork Boise, Anderson Ranch and Danskins. I have seen only one group about 9 birds. I have seen several huns though. From what I hear Arrowrock area is poor. To much snow for to long and starting to early last year.

Too bad. Hope the numbers come back soon - it's been a couple years since we've seen good numbers over here. I miss hunting them. thanks for the info, though. I appreciate it - pretty much confirms what I was thinking.

Well, sheesh, you don't have to rub it in!

I'm just a little bit south of there and we're hearing poor reports of birds this year again. Hopefully next year some of those birds in NE Oregon will fly their way to us down on Brownlee Reservoir. It was about three or four years ago when we had chukars all over the place - and then the next year there were a little less, last year was AWFUL and this year was just a little better than last. Hopefully next year will be awesome again! I miss chukar hunting!
