New Jerseys Pheasant season opens this saturday. Now, I belong to a club and we stock our own birds since native birds in Jersey no longer exist. My plan is to help stock at the gun club and hunt there in the morning, and then head over to some Public land where the state stocks. He are limited to 2 birds a person, and since they are stocked, we are also allowed to shoot hens. We also have something called "Semi-wild" land that you con hunt for pheasants only on Sunday. For this you need to apply for a permit for the land you want to become semi-wild. Just curious on some of the laws in other parts of the country. I grew up hunting for pheasants and its really the hunting a truely love.

Hey hunthard, I think as far as stocking pheasants, no other state touches us. Fish and Game does a good job stocking. I hunt Flatbrook WMA and there are always plenty of birds. Ther are also plenty of hunters. Can get dangerous, as I'm sure you know. Unfortunatly, I;m stuck in Georgia training for a job that I've been doing for 6+ years, and I haven't had the chance to pheasant hunt this year. But all my friends say that this year has bee the best in many years. There are still native pheasant in NJ. I know you can't hunt them, but the Meadowlands are absolutly loaded with wild pheasant. The biggest rooster I ever saw was on East Union Avenue in East Rutherford. If you know that town you know that it crosses Rt 17 in the Meadows. But other than that you're right, without stocked birds, there is no pheasant hunting in NJ. Good luck to you and your club, and be safe.
