Hey everyone. I am new to waterfowl hunting. I actually went Goose hunting for the first time ever yesterday. It was AWESOME! I was the only one in my group that had a call so I tried my best to get them in. I called a couple groups into the decoys that my friend had set up. We ended up killing one. But I was thinking about duck hunting also. I have an awesome area to duck and goose hunt less than 1 mile from my house but I have never hunted waterfowl before. I would love to get into it. But I have no idea what im doing at all. I dont know how to set up decoys or anything like that. I was asking around here for someone to take he duck hunting but so far I havent found anyone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Hey man, long time no chat. There is alot to waterfowling, just like any other type of hunting. I would love to help you out, but to type it out would be a nightmare. (kinda like saying "I want to start bowhunting, what do i do?") Any how, hunting ducks and geese are really totally differant for the most part. Focus on geese in the fields and ducks in the water. Set up your decoys in a basic "U" shape with you at the bottom of the "U" and the wind at your back. (Birds will almost always land INTO the wind.) Calling is good but being concealed and motionless is the most important. BUT the number 1 thing to help you be succesfull is to SCOUT!!!!!!!!! If you are where the birds WANT TO BE, you can routinely kill birds!! And honestly if you hide good and are in the exact spot the you saw birds in the day before, you can kill birds with little to no decoys and no calling. Start reading as much as can on the sport and get out there and stick with it. You will learn alot quick. And if possible, try to hook up with somebody who knows alot about it and get out with them. Just go along and soak up as much as you can. Ask questions and be a student, thank them and try what you learned on your own. I hope this helps get you started, good luck and enjoy the addiction!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can afford a RoboDuck, Mojo Duck or Lucky Duck....buy one. They make a world of difference when getting ducks attention.

There are too many to list here. We are about 50 years behind every other state.

Yeah, I guess I didn't know that! That's a bummer, but good news...the Lucky Duck isn't motorized!

Thats right! Wind powered decoys are totally legal. Pa does have some crappy laws, but I will say there is alot of great hunting opps in the state. Plus we have a TON of public land that is very well managed. (And yes it is also illegal to have fun! Haha)

Man I think I will stay in bama we don't have that many stupid laws. BUt any legal kind of motion you can add will be good, jerk cords flags anything. And scout as much as you can.
