All right people. It's almost time turn it on!! My season starts Sept. 3 up here.
I am a bow-only hunter, and have lots of crown and private land to hunt this year.
The first two weeks of the season I will be at work smack in the middle of some good herds. With my job, I can leave almost whenever I want for a few hours a day. Lots of eyes here o help me scout too.
October I have a week long pack in trip lined up if September doesn't provide.
So things look fairly promising for me.

Hey guys,
I am hunting the last week of September. I am going back with an Oregon outfitter, that I used last year. I took a nice 5x4 the second day of the hunt last year. Hope to run across something bigger this time. Good Luck!

I have a private land cow tag in Colorado that opens in mid October and closes at the end of November. I also have a 4th season (Nov. 12-16) either-elk tag for the same property. I have just gotten to know the landowner so I have never hunted there before but he says when the migration starts they pour on to his property. He says he fills his cow tag every year. We were there in August and saw a herd of a dozen on his property that are there year round. Only time will tell. These are both rifle tags.

Sounds like you got 10 points in the bag!!
I just got back from an Elk calling/hunting seminar with Rocky Jacobson. Definately learned enough to up my odds a bunch.
Anyone have an idea for team name? Just start throwing them out there, and we can look at all of them.

I was thinking this morning of a name to show our International team make up.
Can-Am Killers?
Or a little less gory- Can-Am Connectors?

I don't know about 10 points but I'll be real disappointed if I don't at least get a cow. I like can-am connectors. Anybody have any other suggestions? We certainly hunt in a wide variety of states.

Hey guys,
Nice to see that everyone else has already been on here. I have been out of town at a wedding. Got home from that and left to go Antelope hunting, shot my 12th with my bow. He will go book, I will be elk hunting both bow and rifle seasons here in Montana. I will start September 3rd through the last week of Nov.
I shot a 5x6 with my rifle last year, but I am going to go hard for a bull with my bow this year.

I like the BABB. Because, frankly, that's what I am.
Got exclusive permission (me +1) on some private land (2 sections) lined up with a resident herd of 70 elk. 2 bulls in the 340's, and 3 in the 290-310 range.
Brand new Bowtech Allegiance, days off in the heat of the rut= doesn't get much better.

Good thinking to get that first one of the year out of the way. I'm getting so excited about the upcoming rut I think MY neck is starting to swell.
Will be out scouting again tomorrow.

Aug 21 2008, 09:01 PM
Well, the rain has put a stop to my scouting plans. The good news is the elk will be hunkered down in the bush in this storm for the day. Forecast for cool weather tomorrow, but no rain, so they should be out and moving pretty good.
My partner says there are 10-15 bulls this year in the herd we will be hunting. Just need to get out and put my nametag on one of them.

I got as much practicing as I could with the new bow. Then work called and I am almost as far north as Alaska. Got it to 2" groups at 40 yards. Only had one night for elk scouting. Didn't see any, but found the trail from the bedding and feeding area, so I should do OK.

Way to go! Wish I could warm up like that, but unfortunately there are no speed goats in Illinois, except the bitty ones that play in peoples yards....hmmm that's an idea maybe i could practice....just "kid"-ding.
I really need to practice shooting my gun and bow to build up my confidence again...but darn people and work get in the way. Hopefully I'll get some time.
I don't have really any ideas for a signature at this moment...but i'll keep in mind.
Hows everyone else doin?

Six days and a wake up for me, then I'm Colorado bound. I've packed and unpacked my gear about three times already making sure i'm not forgetting anything! I'll keep shooting until next Wednesday and then pack up the bow and really get antsy for the take off!!

Well, this sucks. 3 days to opening day and I have been sent to northeastern B.C. to work in a remote drilling camp. No bows allowed. I won't get home until the 18th. That's an entire month of not shooting my new bow. I haven't even begun to tune broadheads yet. My first couple days home are gonna be BUSY.

Folks I'm leaving Monday for a 5-day hunt in Oregon. I may not be able to be here again before I leave. I hope to be at least as lucky as last year when I took a 5x4.
I'll report when I get back. Hope everyone is having a good year!

I'm going to try at get a bull with my bow for the first time this year and I was wondering if you don't mind me asking...how many yards was he when you shot him with your bow??? Anyway congratulations and thanks for the points! hopefully I can bring in some points too.

He was at my cut off, 60 yards. I have heard many guys say if you can hit a deer at 20 yards you had better be able to hit an elk at 50. I shoot out to a 100 all the time. I was very confident of the shot. I got a complete pass through with an expandable broadhead.

Thats a heck of a good shot good for you. So far I'm accurate at 30 yards....but seeing what you've said I'd better practice some more

I'm real excited though I LOVE shooting my bow...I'll take any tips from ya if you want to give me any.

I'm back. First off, great bull to 187!! That's what we are all looking for I think.
I was in the elk, but couldn't close the deal. The 4 days I was there, they stopped bugling altogether. Two days before I got there, they actually came joging down the cutline to the bugles. That's when my buddy shot his 2x3. They are bugling again, so I might try and sweet talk momma into letting me go for another couple days.
The best opportunity I had was a really nice 5x5 (chocolate antlers and ivory tips). He tried to jump a barbed wire fence and got his front leg caught up in it. I was 60 yards away, and within my range. But with him trapped like that, I couldn't shoot him. So he got free, jumped the fence, ran out another 60 yards, stuck his tongue out at me, and ran off.
Hopefully will be posting with pics before the weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't get to hunt elk again until mid October. I have a cow tag for the second half of October and all of November that I am very optomisitic about filling and a any-elk tag for 5 days in mid November. I am heading to KS for a muzzleloader deer hunt this weekend and hope to get lucky. My wife did get a very respectable 5x5 with the muzzleloader in September, but we can't count those points for our team. That is where my season stands.
