I have an old mossberg 410, bolt action single shot. I want to use it for dove a bit this upcomming season, but I'm not sure if it's a smart thing to do. I've come up with the idea to use the african professional hunters trick of holding extra's between my fingers as I walk and then hope I can reload really quick and maybe get a second shot if one flushes at the shot. I can use a winchester model 1300 pump so it's not a problem if that's not a good idea but I just like that 410 a lot and want to use it more. So what's your opinion on useing it for dove.

I personally don't like a single shot for doves. In the south we usally hunt doves over some kinda feild that doves are feeding in, and they can get pretty hot and one shot at a time just wont do it.

Yeah, it was a pain last year. I did a little better with our 12 gauge, but it does kick like a mule some times. I guess it'll just get used for rabbits and squirels.

personally i would never do anything like this. You better be one heck of a shot for your sake

Well, I'm better than last year but I'm still not that good. This year at the sporting clays range, I hit a report pair on our tower. The guy that was teaching use how to shoot said it takes some guys months to do that and I did it on my first couple of tries. Not that i'm trying to brag or anything, cause on the same day I couldn't hit a bird flying crossways to me on my life.

I would at the very least use a double barrel.

I don't know if I'd ever be able to aford a double barrel. lol

Little birds are WAAAAAY to darn fast for me and a single shot! Heck sometimes they're too darn fast for me when I've got four friggin shells slingin at 'em!

yeah, it'd be pretty darn tough to hit one with the first shot, then if more pop up then i'm screwed.
