HOW OFTEN DO YOU GUYS CHANGE BOW STRINGS? BASED ON WEAR OR AGE? I AM DILIGENT PUTTING BOW STRING WAX ON. THE STRING ON MY MATHEWS LOOKS FINE BUT A BOW SHOP SAID I SHOULD BE CHANGING STRING AVERY 3 YEARS. MINE IS 4 YEARS NOW. I SHOOT ALOT PREATY MUCH YEAR AROUND, 3-D SHOOTS ETC. WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS?

It all depends on wear. If you take good care of a string it can certainly last longer than three years. I've had my Mathews since 2001 and have only changed my string once, and I think it was two years ago in 06.

I have to agree, it's based on wear. If you're like me and shoot a 1,000 shots a year in tournaments, you're going to want to change it at least once a year. If you shoot a few shots 500 or less, you can go 2, maybe 3 years if it's a lot lower than 500.

Ya it depends on the amount of shooting you do. I think the max is about 3 years and preferably every 2.

I replace it every 2 whether it needs it or not. Don't want to take a chance, and I shoot a lot. There have been times I have only shot a string a year. Depends on how much I shoot and if I have any miss happs!

187ELK said it best...Dont take a chance.
The string is the least talked about part of a bow and infact it is THE MOST important. You wont always see issues with the strands within the string itself. It is the heart of your shot and if it is stretched out or about to blow you have some real issues coming down the line that will cost far more than a new string would have. I replace mine every two years. I could see three being safe but would not ever go past that mark.
Your Mathews came with Barracuda string. It is made with very good material and built with reverse twisted bundles to counter the nock wanting to twist. I would replace it with Barracuda String. You can spend more on Winners Choice but you wont be getting a better string.

It depends on the type of cam, the weight of the arrow you shoot and probably some other things I'm not aware of. I shot my Martin Jaguar about 15,000 times last year and went through two string sets. My new Martin Sabre looks like it'll go 10,000 shots before I'll need a string set. Wax it and keep it clean are all I do. Keep the wheels clean too.
