i have never been quail hunting but we have some wild quail on our club. any suggestions on how to go about it without a dog? i don't have one or know anyone with one. most people around here quit quail hunting years ago when quail numbers started to decline. any help would be greatly appreciated. what size shot and choke for a 20 gauge or a 12 gauge. i have a 20 gauge with a modified choke and a wingmaster with a full choke. which would be the better choice and what shot should i use? thanks for any information.

Either 20 or 12 will work. I shoot either 7.5 or 8 when I go. With out a dog you better be quick. You jump a wild covey and they will be up and gone in a hurry. Good luck...

me and my brother were dove hunting in Texas and he heard something behind him and it turned out they were quail so we jumped them up and he shot two out of that covey and i shot one that we flushed while walking around. so i would either walk around or just listen to them. or if it is legal to through feed out, i would do that and then walk the area you put the feed out after a little while

thanks for the input. i know it won't be easy but i would sure like to have some quail and i don't have any way to get a dog. i don't know anyone who has one and i've heard that a good pointer can be very expensive.
has anyone hunted quail on a paid hunt? what's the cost if you go to a place that has paid quail hunts? know of any in north or south carolina?
