Not trying to give you a hard time here, but could it be the ducks headed south last week with the cold weather? I know that here in Idaho I see consistent numbers until it starts to get cold, then there's a lot of birds for about two weeks as the northerns are coming down out of Canada, then it seems to slow down into late December and January as most of the birds have already gone past. Two years ago we got a nasty cold snap around Thanksgiving with more than a week of weather in the negative teens. After that, even though things warmed back up a bit the rest of the season was nearly a bust because the birds had all gone south.

No joke the ducks are not here like they were last year, We have been hurting over here from the beginning of Dec and looks like it will continue to be bad to the end of the season!
And we have not had any cold weather to push the ducks south at all.. its really weird!

HAHA! I hope theye are all just a little south of you! Because I'm headed out in the am for the first time in about 10 days. I have been VERY sick since about Dec. 28th, and even spent sat in the ER with a major ear infection. I am still pretty sick but if I don't get outside and do something pretty soon I'm going to go insane!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though Bigman, I'm just messin about them being here, I really have no idea if there are any ducks left around or not. I havn't even drove around scouting. I'm going with a buddy of mine tommorrow to one of our "old faithful" duck spots and hoping for the best! I will let you know tommorrow how we did and what we saw.
My buddy did say he saw/heard geese in the air Sunday night about 11 oclock, so there is a good chance alot of birds picked up and headed out.

Well here in bama I did not see the ducks I normally see this morning I think alot has to with the fact that where I hunt not as many people hunted today as their has been hunting and they did not keep the ducks up and moving like in the past couple of weeks around the holidays when everybody was hunting.

adjunt be quiet man. you had some good hunts. At least the birds didn't show up in your state for 2 weeks, and then leave like they are in California.
Ducks are just warm weather birds.

I'm not saying I haven't had any good hunts cause I have, what I'm saying is we don't have anymore ducks up here... Some units where we hunt on public land are only shooting about 8 ducks a day when last year they were averaging around 130 birds a day same with alot of other units.....

Hey Bigman, We went out to day and really didn't see many ducks either. Nothing like we had been seeing, but they could have just changed areas a little bit. We still saw a fair amount of geese that will be here until everything is froze. We only killed 2 mallards and 1 goose, but we were hunting a channel set up for ducks, and really didn't have much for a goose rig out at all. (Had we set up for geese we would have easily shot our limits, but my buddy said "there hasn't been any geese here for a week"!)
Any way, I'm glad you found your birds and good luck finishing out the season!

I was out on wednesday and we got on one of the best blinds on the public land and it was really really slow! I was talking with a fish and game guy( cause he came out and hunted with us a little bit) and he was saying that all the birds haven't come down over here yet because they don't need to. They have alot of refuges up in Washington where they have alot of good food and its the right temp for them so they just keep hanging out up there. And all the sheet water we have doesn't help either!
