I'm new to dove hunting. So do you hunt with a dog or what. I thought i heard you sit there and wait for them to fly over. It sounds fun because it will improve my shooting. And do they taste good.

I just walk a plowed winter wheat field. I can jump plenty but i'm only 5 for 125 shots. The ammo companies are loving me lol.

I prefer a 20 ga., modified choke and 7-1/2 shot for doves.

Dove hunting is fun. i hunt cut corn fields in the arkansas river bottoms . if you shoot one watch where it goes down because they can be hard to find in thick grass

Find you a hot place in a field (perferably a cut corn feild, or winter wheat) and sit their in the afternoons about 3 o'clock and if you are any kind of shot you should have know problem killing a limt. I prefer a Imp. Cyl. choke and 7 1/2s or 8s if it is early in the season.

Fun to shoot and if you have a retriever then use them...
Great to eat.
I love the breast boned out with a slice of jalepens and cream cheese fold the breast wrap in bacon and grill it til the bacon is done and eat...
Take the rest of the bird including heart, liver and gizzard and boil it and add rice. Hard to beat it...

I usually set up on a fencerow between food and water! If there is a tree or two on the fencerow, I get close to them because that's generally what they will fly close to!

BUT... dove hunting is kinda different than any other hunting because its hard when you are by yourself because you want them to fly around and if you have enough bad shots around the field you may get a second go at that same dove
And has anyone heard of a Charles Daily shotgun i just got one, a semi-auto 12 gauge ... it was only $250 so good deal?

what's really fun about dove hunting is you don't have to be quite and you can sit with a few of your buddies and chew the fat while you wait until they fly over. some of my best hunting memories are dove hunting with all my friends from back home when i was a teenager.
doves are really good wrapped in bacon, marinated, and grilled. mmmmmmmm tasty!!!
dove loads are pretty cheap. 4 buck a box at the most. walmart will have what you need. we never hunted with a dog but i have heard of people using them. it's like duck hunting with or without a dog. depends on how many times you want to walk to pick up your down bird.
a good location to hunt, if you can, is near a gravel road with a small water source in a cut milo field with plenty of people.
good luck and have fun

Since youll new it is an awesome expirence that you will love. Practice by shooting skeet if you dont want to spend alot of money on ammo. I go in a plowed corn feild with about 10-13 others

I like to do whatever is working. But where i usually dove hunt I just sit on a fence row between the food and the roost and just blast away. Me and 10 other people shot over 100 in 1 hour before dusk. I hunt in missouri and the limit is 12 so i can assure u that there was a ton of lead flying. I like dove hunting and that much shooting is great but it doesnt give me that rush like quail and pheasant hunting does

you can either jump them or sit and wait. i prefer sitting because you have time to get ready, oh and buy the cheapest ammo you can find cause you'll be using a lot, i like #8 shot

If you can find some good corn or bean fields they like all you have to do is sit there and shoot and not everyone hunt with a dog but its better because the dog picks em up for ya. And I think they taste really good

I got into it a little more last year.I am almost ready for this year.I am just waiting for my mojo dove, and mojo dove live action kit to come in.Anyone ever used them before?
I am going to use a 20ga with imp cyl,and 7 1/2's..The local walmart never stocks enough 12ga ammo, and by thanksgiving the only shotgun shells left in the store are .410 and 20 ga.

If you are hunting field and thier is not a whole lot of people that are alos hunitng that a mojo works fine, b/c the doves tend to get to low to shoot. I personally like taking a regular dove decoy and putting it on a fishing rod and throw it over a power line, or tree limb, somewhere it can be seen, and they will sucker in to it every time, and it keeps them high enough to shoot.

Oh man, it is down right deadly, we hunt a big feild with a power line that runs through it and we through that joker up their and you can see'em b line it to come sit with the fake, kinda hacks some of the other guys off at the feild though.
