This is my second rabbit ever. I'm kinda addicted to them now. They are so hard and so much fun to hunt. We were pheasant hunting and we missed one cock bird but this rabbit kicked up and I rolled him on the second shot. These little buggers are QUICK!

In some parts of the country, rabbits are unspokenly viewed as an unrefined game animal. Many people will only shoot pheasants or quail and pass up on great opportunities for some fun and challenging shooting. In areas where birds are not as productive, hunters often will give up on small game and just become deer or deer/turkey hunters even though there are other opportunties exist in the rabbit/squirrel world--not to mention they provide excellent table fare. It is good to see that you fully enjoyed the hunt, despite missing the bird. Congrats on the cottontail and here's to many more successful "bird" hunts.

No doubt they are fast critters. Thankfully, they don't need alot to kill them. I hunt them most of the time with my .410 using 2 1/2" #9s. Shots aren't very deadly past 25 yards but by then the rabbit is usually gone.
I wish we had more pheasants, but we have alot of grouse so that keeps me happy. I'll be hittin' the bush hard over winter break for small game.

Kinda looks like ya tore it up a bit with that pheasant load.
I like to hunt them from a ridge with a .22 LR. I just try to jump them and hope they stop before they get back to their hole. Or I try to see them before they spook. It's a challenge but really fun when you just bang flop one.
congrats on the running shot.

Nope. Not torn up. We arent allowed to use Rifles in NJ. The only thing we can use a rifle for is ground hogs.
Thanks again everyone
