HEy guys,

So I went grouse hunting this weekend. It was great fun. I only got one but a couple of my buddies got 5 and saw a bunch more. It's wierd, the only grouse I';ve ever killed was when I was on the elk hunt and would happen upon one or two. But I don't really know what kind of habitat I should be looking for them in. And I didn't even know they made a sound until this weekend the one I shot was chirping. So where are the best places to find grouse? What should I look for?

walk old logging roads, a lot of times they sit on the side getting some sun and gravel. I find them in popals a lot around logs on the ground. or if its wet out a lot of times theyell be sitting under pine trees. I think they are pretty much eveywhere. Went out this past weekend too. got 2 and missed a really easy shot haha. jumped up and caught me by surprise. oh well, they usually hang around the same places so i'll get him next time.

Food source is a good place to start. Millet, Milo fields are excellent places to hunt. Tall grass and bushes around in and near those sources work too.

it depends on the type of grouse you are looking for, the ruffed grouse or dusky blue grouse you will find in more of the forest areas, on old logging roads. sharp tails and sage grouse you will find out in the prarie, look for areas with both food and water, CRP fields or areas around cattle stock ponds.
