DOES ANYONE HAVE OR HAD A SCOUT RIFLE? I HAVE A REMINGTON 700LH IN 22-250, AND WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SCOUT RIFLE IN .308 OUT OF IT. I LIKE THE IDEA OF A COMPACT RIFLE THAT SHOOTS A MODERATE CARTRIDGE. I HAVE A BURRIS 2.75X SCOPE FOR THE RIFLE, AND A CLIFTON STOCK THAT CAME WITH THE RIFLE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I'VE ALSO THOUGHT ABOUT LEAVING IT IN 22-250, AND CUTTING THE BARREL DOWN AND MOUNTING THE SCOPE. IF ANYONE HAS HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TYPE OF RIFLE, I'M ALL EARS.

As I understand the concept, one of the characteristics of the Scout rifle is the extreme forward placing of the riflescope (requiring a scope with extremely long eye relief.) I don't care for that particular part of the equation. I love the idea of a small, compact, lightweight rifle, though. A couple of years back my uncle bought one of those compact Ruger M77s. His is in .243 Win. and it is really great. It does come in .308 if you prefer the larger caliber.
