I don't believe this is your team's board, if you want to give us positive feedback that is fine, but if not stay off of our board!

Hey guys,
Went out yesterday, and had elk below us as soon as we got out of the truck. ( I hate parking on elk). We snuck down the canyon about 600 yds. behind them to play the wind. To make a long story short, we wound up catching up to them. There were about 25 cows at the edge of a unit with a pretty good bull right in the middle of the unit. We didn't have any cover to hide us and no way to get to them without being seen. The wind finally changed so we snuck around in front of them. We kind of screwed ourselves and got in too close. By the time we got down where we thought they might come out, we already had cows at forty yards, and a pretty good 5pt. at eighty yards. We couldn't move, so we had to hide behind a stump. Within a half hour, we had six cows at four yards, and the bull at sixteen yards, and we couldn't move. Finally after thirty minutes of being on our knees with our heads stuck in the dirt, and feet falling a sleep, one of the cows figured us out and spooked, and took the rest of the cows with her. We both stood up and I cow called three times, and stopped the bull at twenty six yards but he stopped right behind a root wad with two limbs covering his goodies, so no shot. He took off again and I stopped him again in the unit at sixty yards, but the heard had surrounded him and he had two calves right below his chest, and cow right behind him. We could have shot but didn't want to wind up stapling one of the cows to his shoulder, or missing and wounding the cow. No meat, but a pretty good hunt none the less.
I'll probably get three more days to hunt the west side, and then we are packing in to the Eagle Cap Wilderness this weekend for nine days. Good luck to the team.

Well, you can’t take pictures of close, but we had one of those close encounters.
My son and a friend called in a nice five point and a spike, but they were with 18 to twenty plus cows. The 5 point was within about fifty yards following a cow which had passed within 10 yards of me. The problem too many cows. The cow in front of the 5 point broke in behind a thick patch of short pines and headed up the hill and over and he followed close behind.
The spike came within 20 yards of my son, but you know what happened, too much brush. We worked the same heard for three more days; however, we could never close the deal. We will be back at them next week end for the rest of the season or tag out. We know where they are..............

Well guys I almost got to post some pic! Hit a bull way far back, was holding my bow for too long and the string kept sneaking on me. He was facing me and took a step up the hill to become broadside so I moved my finger in front of the trigger. He stopped, looked my way, the bow snuck forward again, and when I pulled it back all the way my finger hit the release and hit him. I knew it was a horrible shot but could do nothing about it. Sorry guys for not getting us points, was a nice 5X5.

Hang in there guys, I know how you feel, been there done that. Anyone who says they have never done that hasn't hunted very long. Keep your head up, tomorrow is another day. The challenge is the best part of the hunt. Just keep working hard.

Well, everyone has one of those days and I had mine on Monday. I had my chance, but missed judge the distance. He was with cows and when I ranged him he was at 30 yards. The cows were moving around and I was watching them to make sure I didn't get busted. He moved around the cows and stepped out broadside. I put the 30 yard pin on the sweet spot and touch it of. What sick feeling it is to watch the arrow head right the heart only to slide just under his chest. He jumped turned butt to me. I range him again and he was 40 yards. To rub salt in my wound, he came back to drink but never gave me a shot. Well, I’m home and waiting for deer season to start.
Sorry Guys..................

What a season, I had my chance when I hit the bull way far back and quartering towards me. Might of recovered him had it not started raining. This past Sat. last weekend of the season, my dad and I got into elk all day long. We had bulls bugling and coming in but the wind was wrong and got busted on two bulls. Moved on, sat ate a snack, called and a bull answers way off. This is around 9:30am, we hear him bulge and is closer. We then call again and he answers about 300 yards away so we throw our packs on and head towards him, and then the devil of the wind kills us by changing directly towards the bull and game is over.
We hike around and get to a big rock point that overlooks the river valley, I thought I heard a bull bugle, this is around noon, but not sure so we go to the side of the hill, eat a snack and I fell asleep til 1 pm when my dad wakes me and tells me he heard a bull bugle twice in ten minutes. So I wait, nothing, lay down and want to catch some more zzzzs when he bugles again. I sit up eat a snickers, wait 5 minutes and he sounds off again. About a minute and a half later he bugles so we slap leather and go after him. We get down to him in the timber, he is across a draw. We wanted to get to the edge of it but he caught us in the act. When he came up to the top of the draw, he pegged my dad, so I called and he looked my way. Dad was at full draw on the bull for close to 2-3 minutes but no shot, except a quartering towards him, which he should have taken. the bull says enough, goes to leave, I stop him get draw and don't shoot because of a little ole tree, he is 20 yds. Dad ends up shooting the bull but didn't hit him well or if he did the bull didn't bleed but a little bit. I think he grazed the underneath of him. The sad part was he is a 320 bull, nice 6X6!
Last day of the season, nothing but RAIN, RAIN, AND MORE RAIN!!!!
Nothing in the morning, that night almost had a nice 6X6 but our huntin buddy got caught pulling an arrow from his quiver when the bull was 45 yards from me.
The season of so close, but yet so far has ended. Have to wait a 11 months to do it all over agian!
Good luck to you guys that rifle hunt.

I only had five days to hunt deer in the draw unit. Passed up small bucks looking for that big one. Well that big one never showed. So, on the last morning I took what we call a butter buck. Nice forked horn. It won't win any big buck contest, but is sure going to be good eating.
Now I wait for the 615 draw hunt to get in full swing. It’s a Blacktail hunt and I am going to wait for the rut.
