im just looking for some input on taking my eight yearold daughter to the dove field with me i bought her a 20ga. this year and i was planning on starting her on squirrel but i was wondering if a dove field would be just as good a place. ive hunted dove a while but dont really remeber how old i was i think 10 or 11 when i started. shes pretty safe and knows alot about shooting for an 8 year old. would you guys frown on someone showing up to a dove hunt with there kid.

I have been carring my boy since he could walk. He has just started shooting the last 2 years (started when he was 8). Make sure they don't take any head level shots (depending on where you are at in the field and how many are shooting) and wear safety glasses for lead dropping if she is looking up. Have fun.

I wouldn't mind a young kid in the field. I think it's good to get them started young. I was goin deer hunting with my dad when I was about 6 or so. He never hunted birds, but I think i'd be fine. I'd just watch her really close or even stand behind and tell her what to do. I'd think it'd be fine.

It all depends on how much they have been exposed to guns. I have seen some 8 year olds that were safer than some grown men. I would just go over some safty issues like low birds and what not and she should be fine. It should also be a good place to get her hooked espacally if there are a lot of birds.

Just make sure that she knows where all the hunters are and what her field of fire is. Other than that...let it rip
