It's time for the 1st Annual elk contest ! Please read and understand all the rules. If you have a question about the rules, please ask it in this thread.

DEADLINES
SIGN-UP DEADLINE - You have until August 13th to sign-up to participate in the contest

ENTRY DEADLINE - Contest will run from the opening of the first legal elk season until February 28th, 2008. At midnight on February 28th, 2008 the contest will be closed to further entries.

ELIGIBLE ENTRIES
Any elk taken in the 2007-08 elk season. Both cows and bulls are eligible for entry. Elk may be taken however legal way choosen (bow, shotgun, rifle, etc... motor vehicles not allowed ).

SCORING
5 points for a cow elk, or 10 points for a bull elk.
1 additional point will be added for every point on a rack of 1 inch or more.

Additional points will also be awarded depending on your weapon, as follows:
1 point by gun
2 points by muzzleloader
3 points by bow

Participant score will consist of 1 elk. If you are allowed to shoot more than 1 elk you may upgrade your score by submitting the new elk, this will cancel out your previous elk.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SIGNING-UP
- In the 2007-2008 Elk Contest Signup thread make a post including your screen name, your age and the state you will be primarily hunting.

HOW AND WHEN WILL TEAMS BE DRAWN
Shortly after August 13th Wes will randomly pick teams. If # of participants can be evenly divided at the deadline to make suitable teams it will be done, otherwise we will allow a short deadline extension that will end once the needed # of participants is filled or the new deadline is met - whichever comes first. There will be a thread made called 07-08 CC Forum Elk Contest - TEAMS & SCORES that will list the drawing outcome as well as have a running score throughout the contest.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTERING AN ELK
To submit an entry a participant must include in the 07-08 CC Forum Elk Contest - ENTRY thread...
Your screen name,if applicable, the number of tines that are longer than 1 inch (main beam counts),and Photos will be required.

The photos are....

#1- a photo of himself/herself with the elk, the weapon used to kill it, and either a piece of paper with the date on it or the photo must be date stamped. Photo should show at least the entire front half of the elk or more - this is to avoid any possible accusations concerning people entering mounts. Also this pic has to be OF THE ELK with the head attached to the body, also pics of only the skull plate will not be accepted.

#2-If the first photo does not show all points then a we need a photo that shows the points that can not be seen.If 1 inch tine length is questionable please supply a photo with a measurement against the tine for verification.

#3- a photo of legal tag This is a MUST, no elk will be entered without a pic of the tag.

- FOR PARTICIPANTS IN STATES THAT DO NOT HAVE A TAGGING SYESTEM write the following information down on a piece of paper, your forum name, date elk was taken, state elk was taken in, print and sign your name - scan or take a pic of that info and supply it instead of the tag pic

** If you have issues with scanning or posting your photos we would be happy to help you out or post them for you, just send a moderator a PM.

TIE BREAKERS
In case of a tie, the teams participant scores will be arranged in descending order, the scores will be compared in that order with the highest particiapant score indicating the winning team. In the odd case of a tie past this the team names will be put in a hat and drawn, whoever is pulled is the winner.

We will recognize the highest scoring team.
We will also recognize the Youth (Age 18 and under) with the highest scoring elk.
We will recognize a Best of Contest Elk that will be voted on by Cabin Chat forum members after the February 28th deadline.

DISPUTES
Each team has 7 days to dispute an entry. If you want to dispute an entry do it by pm to a moderator. Do not openly dispute an entry. Arguments of the sort will not be tolerated.

I appreciate your hard work, but I can't make exceptions. If I put you on a team, that would make that team uneven. I really can't re-pick all the teams either, since it takes several uniterrupted hours of work to get everything just right.

Some guys that didn't make it into the deer contest are making their own 'unofficial' team in which they'll keep track of their score and compare it to those in the official deer contest. You're welcome to do the same for the elk contest if you like.

Just thought I would try to play the "sympathy card"...Oh well, its an unofficial contest anyways. I will make a team of one...Next year I will be in like flint....
