Usually anywhere from 7 - 8. If I'm doing a early season teal/dove combo hunt though I will use something around a 6 so I can take both birds with the one shell.

8 on opening day 7 1/2 on it to the season. I don't like 6 on a dove field with a lot of people becasue 6's hurt bad when you get the shot rain on you.

I am no expert, but I like to use 8's. The best advice I ever got was resist the urge to buy those cheap Walmart dove loads. It is always better to spend a little extra money on some better quality game loads. They pattern better in the gun and hopefully get more birds. If you have ever shot one and then the other, you can definitely tell a difference in how the gun kicks.

Thats a good point the cheap walmart shells donot do near as well as good shells. The best example I can think of is this past years dove season we shot estate 7 1/2 that we bought at one of my dads freinds sporting goods stores and shot them the frist three weeks of the season and they were great, I mean they just really smoked em. The fourth weekend we ran out and shot some federal 7 1/2 we got a Walmart and I had to shot some doves three times that were hit hard all three times and they just crippled down.

I realley want to stay away from 8s because they dont pass through and whent you eat um it hurts your teeth and TXAgduckhunter dint know you could shoot lead at teal

Rio 7 1/2 High Brass. I know you thinking alot of money for the high brass but I get them for five bucks a box. I would never use them if I knew I would shoot alot but when you only shoot a box or box and half per limit then it is worth the money. I never shot my limit(12) in a box and did it twice last year using these shells.

when I buy shells I buy win AA 7 1/2 then I reload them 2 to 3 times more with 7 1/2 as well but I do the reload with a hotter load I get a 1350 fps load and lead them a little and have mostly head or wing shots.

Man, I love this site. Search and you'll probably find what you are looking for! Just bought a brand new Benelli Super Nova shotgun and am going dove hunting September 1st and had no idea what shell to use... Now I know! The only other questions I have... what choke do I use? It has a IMPROVED CYLINDER in it and came with a FULL and MODIFIED choke. Sorry, I am kinda new to shotgun hunting! THANKS!

I would use your modified choke tube... But if you wanted to you could use your full choke, but take your modified choke and your choke tube wrench with you, or vise versa (put the modified in the gun and then bring the full choke along). That way if you have the full in and you arent seeming to be shooting all that great, you can switch over to the modified and it will open your pattern up and hopefully you'll drop more dove.
Hope this helps! And dont be sorry for asking. Aint nothin to be sorry for.
