Are any of the rifles made by the major companies made in America? I am looking at the Browning A-Bolt, Remington 700 series and the Ruger M77. I know that the Icon is probably American made, but are any of the rest?

Isn't Kimber made in Yonkers NY?

Remington I know is.

Both of my rifles are Remington 700's and I have never had a problem with them. Great, classic looking guns.

Brownings are now made in Japan. I have bought two in the last three years (a 300wsm A-bolt and a 10g Gold shotgun). Both are great guns (the A-bolt is the most accurate rifle I've owned), although I admit I was hestitant at first about buying a Japanese gun. If you are looking for an American gun, I would look at the new Rugers (they are supposed to have a much better trigger over their older design which was very heavy), or if your budget allows, the Kimbers are a sweet gun. The TC Icon looks nice, although you are limited on caliber options.

What about Savage and NEF?

Remington and Ruger are also fine choices.

Most firearms manufacturers these days produce some rifles overseas, so if you want American made, look for the "Made In USA" stamp on every rifle you fondle. I know Savage has a factory in Canada, but as far as I know all their CF rifles are made in the US. NEF doesn't import anything that I know of either. Most everything from Remington is made in the US. They make some ammo and clothing in Mexico, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of their clothing was from Asia, but I can't say for sure. The word on the street is that their Spartan line of guns is made by Baikal in Russia. I'm not sure about any of the others.

I'm a Ruger homer, but I've never been disappointed in them. Trigger can be a little heavy, but lightened with a little work!
