I AM GOING SHOTGUN HUNTING IN THE MIDWEST AND WANT TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF GUN AND SLUGS WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

It all depends on the action and whether or not you want to spend the money for a top of the line gun. As far as slugs go with remington or federals, i use remingtons out of my 20 ga. smooth bore and i think i'm going to get them for my new 12 ga. stoeger.

I'm in the market myself. I'm going with a 20ga rifled barrel for my Encore. Odd being back in a state that for the most part will not let me use a rifle for deer (which is why I bow hunt so much I suppose...other than the fact I just love it!)

Everything I hear says the Remington 870 with a rifled slug barrel is awesome.

I love my new stoeger, it came with a cantilever slug barrel so if your looking for an auto go for sure with a stoeger m2000. It is a lower line auto but it is great and i cant wait to start patterning it with the scope and all. I will shoot remington core-lokt sabots out of it, it is a 12 ga.

I use the Remington 870. I've got an old smooth bore 20 inch barrel with rifle sights. At 50 yards I keep three shots in a 4 inch circle. Hits about 4 inches low at 100 yards. I shoot the remington slugger foster slugs. I like to say I'm shooting laser guided smart bombs! Depending on where your hunting in the midwest 50 yards might be a long shot....and then 100 yards might be the norm. If your hunting more the 100 yard range area, I would consider a rifled barrel and a scope.

I use a Mossberg 835 with the cantilever barrel and the Hastings sabots. Didnt like the feel of the 870. You cant really go wrong with any of the mass produced shotguns with a rifled barrel. My next slug gun will be an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in 12ga. though. They are some real tack drivers and with the price, very hard to beat.
