When I first started to hunt there was no such thing as a dove decoy. But while I was going to school at ole miss a friend of mine turned me on to them. First they were hard plastic copies of doves like duck decoys. At first I would group two or three on a bob wire fence or tree 2 or three at a time. Boy did they worked. Atleast I could tell the birds veered closer to me.

I had an idea one day. So I took my fishing pole attached the string to one of the decoys and through it over the telephone wire in the field and let it fall to the ground. I then reeled the decoy till it went all the way up to the line. I then cut the line off and staked it to the ground. I did this 2 to 4 more times till I had a couple of birds on the line. My decoys were 30 to 40 feet off the ground for all to see. Let me tell you they came from half way across the field to sit next to my fine plastc feathered friends.

While the farmer sat next to me scratching his head I left with a limit and a story to spread to poeple like you.

Sounds like a good Idea to get those decoys up there but I don't think I would hunt around power lines or be shooting even near them, But its good to know that the decoys really do work!

We had some years ago we ordered from HERTERS.

We would find a dynamite whole or some water that wa sstagnant. Doves prefer stagnated water.

We used hooks and a fishing pole to hang them on limbs of a nearby dead oak and pecan tree.

We killed a lot of doves doing that...........

That is a really good idea, and we hunt under powerlines, we just never shoot at them. We hunt out of an old corral, its an awesome spot.

One thing that worked very well for us is, we would wear a tan/dove colored hat, and when we saw birds going by, we would flop the hat just above a fence post, that always turned them. It looks like a dove flapping from a distance. I'll be trying some decoys and probably a robo-dove. My buddy has one and only had one day in the season that it didn't work. I think he just hunted the same spot to many times.

I have been doing that for the past couple of years, and hammered doves. The only problem I have seen is that poeple that arenot killing birds may get a little irratated.
