so once you have located do you use a box call or do you stalk?

If you are hunting with a buddy, have them stand about 10 yards away from you while blowin your locater call. Sometimes you will get a responce, but unable to hear it cause of the volume of your call.
As far as decoys I am not totally sold on them, meaning I am not 100% sure when I used a decoy, it was the reason I harvested a bird. Don't get me I wrong, I have used them and still carry them in the woods.
I am sure you will get mixed responces to the use of decoys, but this is my experience!!!!
To your third question, it depends on a lot of things. How close he is, how much cover their is, whats between you and the bird, so it's kinda hard to give you a answer

I rarly use locators normaly there is enough other comotion in the woods in the morning.
After flydown u have to watch walking through woods cause they will bust u and u wont even know it.
If im walking normally i will stop and give a couple yelps about every 50 yards witch has saved me many times from gettin busted and has rewarded many times with a kill..
Even those days when u walked all day and didnt hear nothin and you just want to get back to the truck. Thats when its all going to happen smile.gif Good Luck

I rarely use locator calls. On the rare occasion that I do, I throw a hoot or two with my natural voice, but only if the woods are silent and no owls are talking when they should be.
If a bird responds (even when the real owls get 'em going), I get as close I feel comfortable and throw a few soft tree yelps at 'em. After the bird flies down, I just give a few clucks and purrs....maybe a few soft yelps. If the bird is closing in, then a few soft clucks and maybe a few light yelps is all you need.
