Wondering if anyone has considered or has already pruchased a 798?
I happen to like the Mauser style actions. I am also a fan of the Remington 700. Given those 2 facts, I am wondering if the 798 is a gun worth considering.
I have read up on them a little, and understand how it is that the actions are being manufactured less expensively and not cheaply. However, the true test is always in the hands of the individual pulling the trigger.
Any experiences or thoughts out there?

I've checked them out at the store. Havent shot one yet but from what I've seen I think you would be way further ahead buying the CZ in 550 or 527 vs the Rem 798 or 799.
Euro mausers of this type are a dime a dozen used and the Remington name wont make them out shoot the CZ. JMHO

Ok, so I go to the gunshop and ask to see the 798. Let me say just two words.....NOT IMPRESSED. Wow, I was expecting a lot more, in the way of craftsmanship, than what the man behind the counter handed me.
Poor showing in my opinion. I was under the impression these actions were being produced inexpensively rather than cheaply. Words are just words and in the case of teh 798, cheap and inexpensive seem to be synonomous.
I am a Remington fan as mentioned in the original post. But I also have Rugers and I think I will stick with them for this next purchase. I almost typed "sorry Remington" there, but I think they are the ones who are sorry in this case.

Man, I'd love to get my hands on a CZ 550. They have an awesome reputation, and they're good looking rifles. I've got a 513 Basic (Farmer model) in .22LR. I've never seen a simpler rifle design - the trigger only has maybe 4 moving parts. It's 100% non-adjustable, but it is pretty good for such a simple design. I figured a cheap rifle like that would be more of a project gun than a shooter, but I have been throughly impressed. Fit and finish is decent, but accuracy is outstanding. I can consistantly keep it in 1/2" @ 50 yards, and for a cheap-o foreign-made rifle you can't beat it. If the 550 is anything like the 513, I can only imagine it will be your favorite gun. Check this one out:

Guy who works for me said I have too many guns. Keep in mind that I have acquired two long guns in the last week, but I still say that his statement is just simply impossible! One can never have too many!!!
