How about just "Lucky 13". I like it. Nobody said the name had to be turkey related. I guess if you want something to do with turkey hunting "Hevi 13" . thats what I shoot.
SouthernStrut56
Mar 5 2007, 08:27 AM
Yeah I've liked Lucky 13 from the start, it's simple and while everybody else is thinkin of an "intimidating" turkey killin name, we'll let our birds do the intimidating. We all need to agree on it though. "Lucky 13"? Or do y'all want somethin to do with turkey hunting? Hey Litt, when's your season start and how long does it last? What's your limit up in Missouri?

Alright then, I think we should go with Lucky 13 as our team name. How do we make it official? 9 days until I declare war on turkeys here in Alabama. When does everybody else start?
LittandJake
Mar 6 2007, 02:36 AM
we open April 16th in Mo. It is as early of a season as we have had in a while and I think it will be a good one. We get two birds for the spring season. If I can swing it I will be hunting Kansas as well.

I think a key to winning somethin like this is every person hunting as many places as possible. I've been asking my buddies to talk to some landowners they know around Auburn to see if I could hunt turkeys on their land. So far I've got about 6 places I'll be hunting, including our 3 pieces of private land and the Talladega National Forest. I'll be able to hunt a lot of days like always, so hopefully I'll shoot my limit and have 5 birds to choose from. I've got to finish up my bush-hogging and blind makin' this weekend and I'll be ready to put the lead to 'em. Looks like it might just be a handful of us and I know we got some tough competition, so hunt 'em hard. Anybody gonna try ol' B-Mobile out this year?
stoutk
Mar 7 2007, 10:02 AM
Lucky 13 is fine with me...and I'll be using the new Primos Decoy...Have B-Mobile sitting in my hunting room at my house just strutting and carrying on...he's getting antsy...and so am I! about another month!
SouthernStrut56
Mar 7 2007, 12:20 PM
I couldn't bring myself to pay $70 for a decoy, so I'm making my own struttin decoy for just $10. I'm puttin the finishing touches on it, it's pretty neat. It looks retarded right now but maybe I can make it look alright.
SouthernStrut56
Mar 8 2007, 01:13 AM
I'm a college student, don't need to spend $70 on a decoy, so I made my own. I'm still working on it but should be done in a couple of days and hopefully I can make an old gobbler mad enough to come check him out. It only costs about $15 to make which beats the crap out of $70. My own homemade version of B-Mobile, which I call Velcro Vern.

Now $23.75 is a deal, I'd definitely go for that. I might check out ebay if ol' Vern turns out to be a dud. Turkeys are probably gonna come out and try to beat him up for being the retarded nerd turkey.

Well, I already kicked off the season in Florida, hunting Osceolas. No luck there. Those birds are tough, and we only had a few days to hunt/scout. The Louisiana season kicks off March 24th, and I'll be hunting primarily on private land. So far, things are looking good, but you never know about those wiley gobblers.

I've been messin with this decoy trying to get the head color right. If I get on aim it's usually late, so it would be really late for you on eastern time. Turkeys are lookin' good down here, I'm ready to get in the swing of things. Saw about 25 birds last friday in the fields, about 5 or 6 nice toms. I finished my new field blind up, looks like something from Vietnam. Ready for killin'. I'm going Thursday morning out here to some National Forest land before class with a couple of buddies. Then I'll head to my place in the afternoon and see if I can bust up a flock and wait on em to come back into the fields. If not then I'll be roostin one for Friday morning. Can't wait!

Tacked one up for the home team on opening day here in Alabama. Check him out. I've killed bigger but what a fun hunt. I got to my land around 3:00 PM today in a rain storm. I figured they'd be in the fields so I walked to the field where I'd been seein the most birds. My plan was to bust up whatever birds were out there and set up and wait. I did just that and 4 hens came out about an hour later. About 30 minutes after the hens came out, ol' tom came struttin' down the road right into my lap. How can anybody not like turkey hunting??? I'm goin' for number 2 tomorrow fellas, maybe he'll gobble for me in the morning. Good luck to the rest of the team!

Hey Arlo, feels good to get a bird opening day don't it? Good lookin birds, me and my buddy are gonna try for a double tomorrow in Randolph County. I'm from Oxford, live in Auburn going to school, and hunt in Randolph County. Have they been gobbling much for you in Cherokee County? Got in the woods at about 9:30 today b/c I just couldn't see myself getting there at dark in 30 degree weather for a spring turkey hunt. Still was able to get a couple of gobbles out of one tom. I scratched around in the leaves and purred to him, but he crossed a ridge a little outta range in the thick stuff and I couldn't talk him into comin to see me. I stuck that old homemade decoy out in the fields today a little after lunch but not a single turkey was in sight. When it warms up I should have better results, and during my spring break I hope to bring a couple in. I'll be back in the woods Monday before class, hope it won't be cold and windy again.

I just bought a fuse sidekick for my mathews lx, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to arrow a gobbler this year...been pretty successful in the past with a firearm so why not add another challenge! bowhunting turkeys is the best, i usually set up next to roosting areas or even do alittle late morning stalks with the bow ( its really hard without a blind i guess but i have been very successful so far) i just purchased a double bull matrix blind so i'll try it out. good luck stoutk bowhunting turkeys!

Hey Mathews Solocam...I bought my double bull primarily because I have four year old who wanted to start deer hunting with me and I'd rather have him on the ground now than in a tree with me...and they are the BEST! hands down...well worth the money spent...anyways...good luck to you as well...nothing like bowhunting...for anything!

I got us another one today around 12:00, it sure pays off to hunt all day and never give up on a hard gobbling tom. Had a little over inch spurs, about a 9 inch beard, and weighed 19 lbs 15 oz. He had a really thick beard, just wish it was longer. I'll have the pictures up later on this evening. Good luck guys, let's keep on hammerin' em!

Yeah it's been goin' well down here. The weather has been absolutely awesome for the past couple of weeks. This is the tom that I've had my eye on since before the season came in. Every single mid-morning to afternoon he's in the same green field, so I got tired of seeing him and went guerilla style after him today. I came up short a couple of times but I never gave up on him and it finally paid off around 12:00 at about 90 degrees. I don't care if he doesn't score high, I love this bird's beard! Got a month and a week to get 3 more birds. We really are lucky down here in Alabama to have such a high population and 5 bird limit, I love it! Here he is. Good luck y'all, we can win this!
