I have been turkey hunting for about 18 years and I have always been told that they can not smell, but i have never noticed which why the wind is blowing when that big tom wont come in lol

. I sure thats not the reason though. I dont believe they can smell good enough to wind you.

Turkey's do have a verylimited sense of smell, not enough to be able to wind you unless you just ate raw garlic & sat 2 feet in front of their noses breathing on them,& even then I doubt they could smell you. Think about it would you pick thru steaming cow manure for corn if you could smell, I don't think so!
By the way picking thru manure is called the "hot lunch program"

It's amazing that an amimal that can nearly see and hear stink can't smell it.

No, and good thing! With their eye sight and if they could smell like a deer, we would never be able to kill one!!!

All this goes to prove that God really made those critters for our enjoyment! That is: to be chased after, shot at, and best of all EATEN!!!

they don't, but their friend the deer does and turkeys can hear a deer snort and see it raise its tail as it takes off.

Physco451 makes a great point, that turkeys often use deer as their 3rd sence. And deer will do the same thing, if you are hunting deer and have turkeys around look out, YOU WILL BE BUSTED! This is why it is not uncommon to see deer and turkeys feeding together. It's all part of mother natures way of prey looking out for each other.
