BIGDOG-
You're just a beginner-I've put in for an Oregon bighorn for about 35 years. I should be awarded one for persistance if nothing else. My two hunting buddies both drew in '95. One had only applied for two years, the other six. Its a conspiracy I tell you  One got a good ram, scored around 166. Unfortunately the head was destroyed in a fire, along with his best blacktail. I'll share a photo of the blacktail. It was taken during the High Cascade season and scored around 140.
Not bad for a guy who shoots the first legal buck he sees every year.
I think the ODFW is waiting until I get too old and fat to chase the rams, then they'll give me a tag.

IN THE STATE OF OREGON, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE 209 PRIMER, FIBER OPTIC SIGHTS, SABOT BULLETS, OR SCOPES DURING A MUZZLELOADER HUNT. I PERSONALLY DO NOT CARE FOR THE T/C ENCORE. I THINK IT IS A FINE RIFLE SYSTEM, BUT IT IS NOT TO MY LIKING. MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE IN BLACKPOWDER RIFLES LEANS TO THE PERCUSSION RIFLES. IT KIND OF LETS ME RE-LIVE THE DAYS OF OLD LIKE MY MARLIN 30-30. I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT I WAS BORN 100 YEARS TOO LATE, AND BELIEVE ME I WAS!! I LOVE THE SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER, THE LEVER ACTION RIFLE, THE FALLING BLOCK RIFLES, ETC.. I THINK YOU GET THE PICTURE. ONE OF MY GREATEST HEROS WAS TEDDY ROOSEVELT. WE REALLY NEED MORE PRESIDENTS LIKE HIM!!
AND YES I ALWAYS NEED AN EXCUSE TO GO TOO MY FAVORITE HAUNTS AND LOOK AT GUNS!!

As much as I truely love my Encore, I still agree with you about being born too late. I really am getting into lever action rifles, and I messed up a few months ago when I didn't buy a Marlin chambered in .35 Remington. (For less than $200 by the way)
I also think that my next gun purchase will be a Ruger Vaquaro in either .45LC or .44-40.
My goal also for next winter, is to build a percussion muzzle loader. I want to build one in a left handed hawkin style, so if you can tell me where to look for such a kit I would appricate it very much.
Hey, also what did you decide on the sidearm issue?

I'VE BEEN USING WINCHESTER 180 GRAIN HOLLOWPOINTS FOR CONCEALED CARRY AND WINCHESTER 180 GRAIN FMJ'S WHILE HUNTING. I WANT A BULLET THAT PENETRATE BEHIND THE SKULL REGION IF I HAVE TO USE IT ON A CHARGING BLACK BEAR. I KNOW GUYS THAT USE 180 GRAIN NORMAS FMJS IN ALASKA FOR BROWNS AND INTERIOR GRIZZLIES. I KNOW THAT A 180 GRAIN HP OR FMJ WOULD KILL A COUGAR IF HAD TO GO TO THAT EXTREME. I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE BIGGEST BULLET AVAILABLE FOR ANY OF MY HANDGUNS, AND RIFLES. THE IDEA OF A BIG BULLET MOVING AT A MODERATE SPEED AND HITTING WITH OVERWHELMING FORCE IS A COMFORT.

Big Dog,
Ever tried any Cor-Bon's in your Glock? They have awsome expantion and knock down force. They are a great hollow point round if you haven't tried any be a good thing to give you an excuse to go shoot some more!

MOUNTAIN CLIMBER-
I'VE TALKED TO A GUY I KNOW IN PENDLETON, AND HE'S BEEN CATCHING THEM UP THERE. I HAVE YET TO GO OUT, BUT THE FIRST CHANCE I GET I'M GOING. I HAVE NOT HAD A LOT OF TIME, DUE TO WORK AND OUTSIDE OBLIGATIONS. MY BROTHER IN-LAW(SOMEDAY) CAUGHT TO REAL NICE KEEPERS OVER BY CHINAMAN'S HOLE. IT SEEMS TO BE A REALLY GOOD YEAR FOR HATCHERY FISH. ABOUT YOU SHOOTING LEFT HANDED, ARE YOU LEFT EYE DOMINANT? I TOO AM RIGHT HANDED FOR EVERYTHING, EXCEPT WHEN I SHOOT FIREARMS, BOWS, AND PLAYING POOL. I THINK I WAS FORCED TO USE MY RIGHT HAND IN SCHOLL AS A KID. IT SEEMED TO POLITICALLY CORRECT BACK THEN. REMEMBER, WE ARE NOT ABNORMAL EVERYONE ELSE IS. DO YOU SHOOT OUT AT THE 3D COURSE IN POWER CITY? I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN, BUT $.

I HAVE NOT TRIED THE CORBON'S IN MY GLOCKS. I'M REALLY NOT A FAN OF THERE AMMO. THERE IS NO REASON, OTHER THAN I DON'T NEED THE SUPER DUPER, ROCKEM' SOCKEM' HOLLOWPOINTS THAT EVERY SELF PROCLAIM SELF DEFENSE EXPERT TALKS ABOUT. THE WINCHESTERS WORK FOR ME, AND I HAVE YET TO ACTUALLY HAVE THE NEED TO USE THEM. FOR WHAT I USE MY GLOCK22, THE CURRENT AMMO I HAVE IS ENOUGH FOR ME. I CARRY 230 GRAIN FMJ'S IN MY 1911, IT HAS WORKED FOR THE PAST 93 YEARS, AND WILL CONTINUE TO WORK FOR THE NEXT 93 YEARS. I THINK I HAVE BECOME AN OLD TIMER THAT USES WHAT WORKS, AND DOESN'T BUY INTO THE ADVERTISING OF THE BIG COMPANIES. IF I ONLY HAD A 30-30 AND A 45 COLT, I WOULD BE HAPPY, BUT I STILL FIND REASONS TO AQUIRE OTHER WORKS OF ART.

Big Dog,
I agree whole heartedly, I was just curious if you had used that ammo. But for me the old standby's are standouts even today, ie. .30-06, .45LC, and even the old military cartridges.
I once put in a post that I have become really drawn to the old lever action rifles and single action revolvers.
I don't have any wildcat calibers, I strongly feel that with research and a little work at the loading bench, you can do anything with one of the old reliables, as you can with the new wildcats in most cases.
Most people do not realize that most of a given calibers effectiveness is actually the load that is being used. What I mean by this is, in my .30-06 for example, I can work up loads fast and light enough for varmints, but on the other side of the token, heavy enough for elk and bear - IF NEEDED (I don't personally recomend the .30-06 for grizzleys, but it would be possible)
My point with everything here is, research what loads are available for what you already have, there may not be a reason to go with a new gun, you might just have the thing at home and just need a new load for it.
Just my thoughts on things anyway!
