Do you know what part of the state you will be hunting. I believe we talked about out west before, but what part of the state? The best numbers I have heard so far is from Chamberlain east to Mitchell and east farther to Kimball. Farther north around Miller and Redfield also holds high numbers of birds. The numbers are also good in the northeast corner around Clark and Doland. I tried to to find some preserves out west but all I could find were some east river locations.
If you will be hunting public and walk-in areas you can go to www.sdgfp.info/Publications/Atlas/Index.htm and print some copies of the areas you will be hunting. It will tell you how much public land there is and how to get to them.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Doug, I'm going to be hunting the Mitchell area somewhere around Wagner?? I am hunting with a few guys that have hunted there before, I am meeting them in Mitchell. This will be my first trip to SD!! The bird numbers are going to be really high we hear, as many as 200 per square mile, sounds like fun to me!!! I'll let you guys know how it goes!!
I'll even count my shells!!!!!!! Just for you isshe!!!

I just got back from the Miller area this evening, and I will tell you it was the toughest year I have seen.
If you didn't have standing corn, it was tough to find birds. The 20-30 mile an hour winds on Sunday didn't help either.
We had a blast, but didn't get our limit for the first time ever.
