I use one of those 4 way calls.I do the chatter, and then bark with it for a little while, and then listen for one in the distance to bark back. Then I start slipping in towards him. Most of the time when you get within 50yds they usually see you since they heard the other squirrel announcing danger in that direction, and he will be looking for that danger and as soon as he sees you he will get quiet.
If you can't find him just sit down, and wait. They will usually forget after 15-30 minutes and go back to moving around.I call this my tootsie pop technique..I take some tootsie pops with me,and when I sit down I take one out.I wait until it's gone, and then move along.
I have also have had good luck cracking pecans, and snacking while I wait.Seems to call them in...Maybe that's why I gain 10lbs after deer season...

I scall squirrels a lot. Its the only way I hunt them, I primarily hunt with air rifles. But I use chatter, and Distress calls, the chatter is basically the best call Distress will generally get squirrels running towards you in the spring.
