Hello All,
I hunt the North Slope in North Eastern Utah. In the area there are hundreds of small lakes and ponds all over. During my scouting I haven't seen many wallows (only one potential one) because of so much water. Is there any advice to pinpointing a winner watering hole? Also, saw some nice bulls in late june, none in July but saw a lot of sign connected to bulls. Will the bulls be in the same general location I saw them in June at the end of August :?: I CAN'S SLEEP, NEED TO HUNT ELK :!:

Mightymou...I mean hunter
I know what you mean. I have hunted the N.S. up by Spirit Lake. Water is everywere. Every 200 yrds you can find water of some sort. So unluss you can find an active wallow or an active water hole sitting one one will be a waste of time. If you can find an active one the elk will continue to use that one unless they are disturbed. That could include, hunters, cats and bears. I always had a hard time hunting that area becasue the elk are scattered. Later as they get more vocal it will be easier to locate. So, you are going to have to either find a vantage point (almost impossible in that country) to glass open areas or get lucky and stumble into them.

Do you still hunt up there? I just started hunting it last year, looking for a nice bull. My scouting has paid off in finding sign and animals, just hope they're still there in the next couple of weeks.

I know what you mean about the drive. We used to hunt Current Creek cause the elk herd is nice there, only it's a Spike Only area and I wanted a big one. Thanks for the tips. I know weyman is pretty good at holding some elk. If you ever go back go up towards fish lake, 3 miles west of spirit lake. There are 3 drainages that run together in this huge meadow and I've seen elk there every morning that I have scouted this summer. Good luck this year wherever you go.

Yes, I know exactly were you are talking about. Go get em! I do know the elk there have about a 4 day rotation. Meaning that if they disapear check back in about 4 days. I don't know were they go but they always return.
I'll send ya a pm
