Anybody Shooting the G5 Tekan II's? If so, What do you think about them, I'm primarily a Muzzy Man But I've seen what they do to Deer and Heard some about them, Just wanted to get some opinions on here before I go out and Buy a Pack.
psearcher22
I will never shoot them again. I bought some to try and later found out they are illegal in my state because they are considered barbed. The blades open too easy and once they open they stay open and you will tear your target apart getting them out. Also they flew worse than some of the fixed blades I have laying around.

That's disappointing to hear. I just bought some yesterday to try
psearcher22
Sorry guys some like them but I hated them. Tore my cousins block apart shooting 3 of them into it. And the blades open way to easy for me

Check this out he can give you some more info.

Well, that's what I was lookin into. If the blades slide open on contact with Skin, they're odviously a Cut on Contact Head. Overall providing a More devastating Wound that severs more arteries killing the deer Faster. That's just my Mentality, I've never shot them before I'm just thinkin about tryin some out.
psearcher22
Yeah I like the rocky mt. snypers much better. These tekans open way too easy.

I was not impressed with the blood trail last year.. I shot 3 deer and only one left a blood trail that compaired to my old muzzy's. I hit all three deer perfect.... One left little to no blood. Luckily I saw it fall.. the other I had to use my friends dog... Hit the top of both lungs and this deer ran over 130 yds leaving no blood except light pink on the shaft and vanes... I've never had a double lung go over 30 to 50 yrds... and usually they bleed like a sieve...So I switched to the grim reaper xtra cut...
psearcher22
Oh and if you push them through paper all they make is a slit the main coc tip does hardly nothing. The montec makes a better hole imo.
CTTurkeyMan72191
Well, No use in wastin my money on them If They're no Good. Guess I'll be stickin with Muzzy's biggrin.gif

We spike hunted last year in Idaho by climbing down about 3500 feet and about 3-6 miles from base camp and had elk everywhere. We drank about 6 liters of water a day, each. Water is the key and I would recommend purchasing a water filtration kit for around $55. Save your best water for drinking and boil local spring water/creek water for cooking.

We had deer jerky, trail mix, box of serveral rices, meal rations and energy bars. I lost 10 pounds in 7 days and had previoulsy lost 5 pounds in about 3 months of pretty hard training. We saw big bulls almost everyday, which will really motivate you. We had too much extra gear prepared for bad weather, only to luck out and have no moisture to contend with. Take a very seriosu look at what you are carrying and go as light as possible to keep mobile. We cooked high carbohydrate meals every night boiled water to refill our supply and still ran out of water every day. I remember the first night we chased a huge heard bull down into a steep canyon only to stop due to exhaustion. We set up base camp had this screaming bull so close a couple of times we had to look around to make sure he was not going to walk through our camp. That night we heard nine different bulls at sunset in the canyon/valley we were in. Few would dare go where we were. I suggest going for spike camp for about 3 days and then go back for food and water resupply. A cold beer never tasted so good. Three times we had snow move in at the higher elevations and it was nasty cold and broke down my base camp tent.

The key was to locate bulls by buggling and then go to them wherever they were and they were in some steep stuff. Jim Horns calling worked pretty puch perfectly. Almost every time the big bulls were very vocal and almost always we had satellite bulls around the heard that were all shooters. We kept focusing in on the more vocal bull and bumped the satellites.

The one thing that limited our hunt were blisters on my brothers feet. He lost his toe nail about 2 weeks after we got back. We stood on the side of our feet all day for about a week.

Have your fire and where old camp clothes. Clean up your body as good as possible using hot water, unscented soap and a wash rag if you do not have shower and eliminate human scent. Make sure you change your socks and undies every day along with any clothing that touches your skin. You can where your outer clothes more than once as long as sweat does no get to it.

I know I wouldn't want him breeding any does on my land. I do agree that does fill a freezer too, but if I'm not seeing alot of deer, bucks or does I'm shooting a heavy deer with a good amount of meat on it's bones. I would love to shoot a wall hanger every year, but that's just not why I hunt. I love the peace, and serenity that I feel when I'm in the woods, and spending time with my friends, and family in the outdoors is what life is all about too me. Some of my best hunts I went home empty handed, but I did get to see some thing in the woods that someone who doesn't hunt will never get to experience. I think we as hunters need to stop fighting, and judging each other, and just hunt to have fun! Thats my two cents take it for what it's worth. 0 29085 0 0 0 0 243113 0 57 james ard 1 1 216.79.246.97 1155784139 0 Heres my TOY1987.my work truck is a 2005 GMC.

At noon we locate a bull that answers our every buggle and this is no hunter. He is located down a steep hill what seems like a cliff. We decide to go after him and spend the next 1-2 hours moving in as close as possible. We get close enough to make a determination on where he should be located and move in for the final set up. The bull is screaming regularily without us calling to him and we have what I will call a double ditch draw that allows us to get parallel to him on the far right, he is on the left and we can move down the hill without him knowing we are about 100 yards away. We are about to look over the draw to see what is there and make our calling set up plans.

If it were me, I would move around and cover as much ground as possible until I located elk and a bull. I would then determine if he wanted to play based on how he responded to my buggles. Then move in and try to get a look to see if he was worth going after. If he wasn't worth putting on the wall I would not shoot him.

Have you ever packed a bull out of the mountains on foot after being 5 miles away.

The killing is actually a let down. It is the challenge to get close and shoot him with the bow that is what it is all about. 0 29121 0 0 0 0 243120 0 5586 BJ_Outdoors 1 1 12.154.11.62 1155784710 0 first i have a whisker biscuit for a rest....my bow is a pse predator....and at 25 yards it shoots pretty straight but at 30 its over to the left about 6 inches (shot it tonite) nope never had it paper tuned either.....got it as a graduation gift.......first year bowhunting and the season in less than a month....not really plannin on shootin at anything over 25 yrds anyways but id still like to get her sighted in..... 0 29127 0 0 0 0 243121 0 4433 buttons&beards 1 1 209.106.220.2 1155784913 0 Pope and Young Posse sounds good 0 28867 0 0 0 0 243122 0 6533 waterfowladdict 1 1 70.100.3.173 1155784967 0 well i have a mini van its my first car its a hand me down. 0 29135 0 0 0 0 243123 0 1543 modeerslayer 1 1 71.86.17.238 1155784992 0 Team Logo is AWESOME!!!!!!! 8) Wish I could do that!! 0 28863 0 0 0 0 243124 0 5586 BJ_Outdoors 1 1 12.154.11.62 1155785005 0 how do u do this....???? enlighten me please 0 29138 paper tune... 1 0 0 0 243125 0 6747 teddybaham 1 1 72.150.11.22 1155785131 0 three times a day, i have afreind shes a doe, i have her go check and she emails em to me, so i dont disturb the sight. 0 29134 0 0 0 0 243126 0 6847 Elkoholic-BB 0 1 24.17.144.71 1155785239 0 I guess I should re-phrase my initial question. I would spike camp hunt in to wherever your place is and get as far away from other hunters as possible. Five miles minimum is good, which might be up and over the closest mountain and into the valley of the next. Too far for anyone to hunt in and out in one day. I am absolutley convinced that undisturbed elk will be so horny and worked up that they will respond to calling better than anything I have ever hunted. Find a bull by buggle calling into little pockets and move around. After you locate a bull get clsoe ans swithc to cow calls. Preferrably have two people with one doing the calling once you have a bull pin pointed and use estrus cow calls to have him come over and take a look. Use a hyper lip single. It will probably call in a satellite bull that you do not know is even there. 0 29121 0 0 0 0 243139 0 4682 heavybarrel270 1 1 63.171.108.196 1155785981 0 typical 8 sounds good to me . 0 28868 0 0 0 0 243140 0 6822 nothinspecial 1 1 66.61.50.50 1155786041 0 no pics right now,

I never shot vertical sights before and was nervous. I pulled it back and really liked the draw cyle. I let one fly and hit dead center in the Glen Del Deer Target. I softly said now that's a dead deer. I truly like the XT now and really want to shoot it again. I was using Trophy Ridge Mantis Hunter V-Drive.

I know of a few places to hunt but really don't want to give them up. I can tell you that if you are willing to pack back in you have lots of options. Just find a forest service map and find some of the main dranage trails. Most of them are pretty ruged but it will definately get you away from those lazy hunters that you are trying to get away from. The one good thing about Unit 37A is that the access is pretty limited. But due to that these lazy people that we talk about are starting many four wheeler trails that make it tuff for these elk in these areas. So ussually if you can get deep into these dranages you will find many elk and have many choices as far as sizes to pick from. These elk will stick there thoughout the season and may be in these areas already due to the archery season that closes the day before your season opens. Well I hope that can kinda help you. Let me know if you have any other questions that I can answer. that would be really retarded if you couldnt go and get an archery tag if you didnt draw a rifle tag? they wouldnt do that becuase they would be losing money tho.

Actually that law is in the making as we speak. You have to decide by the application deadline. I ohnestly feel this will prevent yahoos from buying a bow and a tag in july because they didn't get a rifle tag. This will give the real archers ample practice time and when ya have enough points saved up you can get your rifle tag. I just keep buying a point saver and bow hunt. Hav't quite figured out what to do with my points yet. I saw four guys buying bows on august 15 last year and their bow elk tags. I wonder if they were the ones that lost the five cows I found dead last year during archery season? I personally think it is a great Idea just for that reason alone. But that is just my opinion. 0 28240 0 0 0 0 243187 0 6127 ArkansasDon 1 1 208.54.220.24 1155815388 0 it's funny, we or I , done this we would be strung out and the max sentence would be handed down, but folks like Jimmy Houston and Troy Gentry bein in the public light and with money , they'll wont be held accountable for there actions :? The arrow still had about 12 of shaft sticking out the bull. The good news is the bull was doing well the picture was taken first week of july. The guy is from the Bend area. Im just wondering whats everyones max distance to take an animal with their bow. Personally mine is 40 yards. I am very comfortable at that distance and confident. I have my bow sighted in for 60 yards, but I think thats way too far for a whitetail.

I am perfect(well at least at the range) out to 30 yards. If I was going elk hunting I would practice out to 40 yards.

I also hunt with a recurve and will not take a shot past 20. 0 29026 Re: Whats your max distance? 0 0 0 0 243190 0 761 jersey hunter 1 1 68.239.232.38 1155815897 0 something looks weird....look at the second pix....it looks photoshopped...unless he has 5 ft left arm.. 0 29119 0 0 0 0 243191 0 3109 SHANE(WA) 1 1 198.185.135.7 1155815931 0 2002 Dodge Cummins quad cab 4x4 straight piped,chipped and a BHAF

But I also do the washing down to eliminate all body oder I can. And while I agree that once you start sweating it would seem that all previous scent control would be over powered but there are things a hunter can do to lessen the smell or your body oders even when sweating.

I also have heard that elk do react negatively to smoke smell. Especially if there has been a recent fire in the area. I believe they do equate fire to danger. I believe in trying to smell like the forest surroundings you are in, besides animal smell they might equate with danger or harm.
